Hi again

Re our worldwide cuisine, we just get Alexa to choose the country and then it’s good old Google after that for the national food. To be fair, Alexa is rubbish at picking a country so we first get her to choose a continent and then to name a country in that continent.

I’ve never thought of asking Alexa to play that country’s music - great shout, we’ll do that next week. Mind you, it’s Australia and we'll probably know a lot of their offerings.

Have enjoyed the countries so far as it’s not stuff we’ve ever eaten before - and it does have to use ingredients that we have or can easily get. Australia seems to be mostly food we know and have eaten before but there’s a few contenders in there to choose from that are new to us.

I just need something to break the routine - flip, not even retired a week and already I’m trying to alleviate boredom! ?

Take care everyone ?

Morning everyone from a cold NE, and more snow today, can't complain yesterday and today the first we have had. DH was to have his Vax yesterday, however nurses weren't happy with him, so no VAX, instead a trip to hospital. He was kept in last night, and hopefully home today. Only problem someone in the ward tested postive for Covid, so not sure what that means for us, will have to ring the helpline to find out if he has to isolate, and if I have to isolate, there is so much confusing information out there about who should and shouldn't isolate!!!! Glad to hear you got to see dentist Marydoll and that you are going to get your VAX today. Hope everyone keeps well and safe.

Aha! Found all you lovely people again. Good morning all and a Happy Wednesday to you.
Its cold and sunny in South Cumbria, no snow just here, we seem to be in a little micro-climate which is wet wet wet, but no snow to speak of. We had five lambs yesterday (is that quins or quintuplets?) which, although small are doing well under a heat lamp. Mother hasn't much milk, naturally, so they are getting supplementary feeds, but they are all staying with her and all is well.
I did a shift at the RVS tea-bar at the hospital yesterday afternoon which felt like a bit of an exciting trip out. Isn't it silly to get all excited about doling out cups of tea and coffee. I must say everyone at the hos[ital is well behaved, wearing masks and distancing. If only the rest of the population would toe the line we'd have a better chance of beating this bug!
Stay safe everyone

Have looked back now and see it was EkwaNimite - hope you did your ‘useful’ and are now enjoying your reading smile

Good morning from West Sussex. It was sunny earlier and not as cold a wind as yesterday but clouded over now and flakes of snow falling.

Welcome Mazz21 and congratulations on your (delayed) retirement - you have more than earned it.

Just heard transport minister says we shouldn’t plan summer holidays, even in the UK. I can live without a holiday but I do want to see my family. DD2 is in Scotland so I am thinking just a slight easing would allow us both to use our campervans and meet up outside. I do hope that can happen. I really feel for those whose families are overseas and may have to wait even longer to meet up.

Must go and do something useful - I’ve forgotten which poster said about Puritan streak and don’t want to lose my post by going back and checking but I know what you mean. On the other hand I have a ‘duty’ to read my library books so that I can return them for someone else to read grin.

Good af ternoon, all from the cold and nearly snow-bound south of Denmark. The wind, which has been at gale force for days, has dropped, thank goodness.

Doing the washing and sending grateful thoughts to the inventor of the tumbler-dryer and of the fully automatic washing-machine.

Just told grandchildren about wash-day before the advent of these mod. cons. they thought I was having them on.

A belated Good Morning from North Wales where the mercury is below freezing but the sun is shining and the sky is blue.

I had a terrible nights sleep as himself wasn’t feeling very well and as a result neither of us got much rest. The original plan was to go to M&S today to purchase the Valentines meal deal but we will have to see how himself feels later on.

Sparklefizz, you were right about the pottering yesterday it didn’t get done ?. Four year old grandson was with me for most of the day and by the time he left I didn’t have the energy to do much. As well as the planned schooling, we took a walk to a local play area. It was cold but dry and thankfully there was nobody there ( probably had more sense in this weather). I was also pleased that the flooring was that rubberised material so mud free which is a blessing at this time of year. The little fella had a great time and was able to burn off some excess energy.

Tonight we shall be having another cold weather classic, stew! I found some stewing steak in the freezer yesterday and we have plenty of potatoes and some root veg. Not too sure what the rest of the day holds, but we shall plod on as usual.

As always sending hugs and warm wishes so those with troubles and sadness and to those who just need a virtual hug. Also sending warm wishes to those who are celebrating today ???

My earlier grump has disappeared, apologies for dragging the thread down.
Marydoll a lottery ticket on your way to the sh*t centre I think, it may subsidise your dental work. Grandmafrench what disappointment, it’s a right paintgate saga, I’ve not heard good things about your parcel handler from various friends in France either, they seem to have fictitious attempted deliveries too. How is your ankle now?
Welcome Mazz21 may you enjoy your retirement in these odd times, good idea with Alexa, do you get it to play music from the country too? ?

polomint Wed 10-Feb-21 11:43:47

Good morning from central Lanarkshire. Another snowfall during the night which pleases our little dog. I wish I had some motivation to do some cooking but think I will just order a takeaway for tonight. I do like a curry

hollysteers Wed 10-Feb-21 11:34:19

Good morning Mick and all from Wrinklebury on the Northwest coast where the sun is cracking the ice. I’m off to the optician where they have replaced the original lens with a nicely tinted one with bifocals in them. Hope it works as the frame is rather nice. Not sure if I want anyone near me though..
My avocado was just right this morning. I like it with lemon juice and nothing else. With olives, the healthiest thing I eat. Then I will take a turn around the park.
I watched Marriage Story on Netflix last night. Although award winning, I found it rather boring and the reviews said how moving it was, but I remained unmoved.
My current book is much better, ‘The Wedding Guest’ by Elizabeth Taylor, the novelist, not the film star.
Did a head renaissance style with red conte pencil on tinted paper yesterday, what a lovely medium!
Thoughts to the troubled and will read all your diary entries later GW

Mapleleaf Wed 10-Feb-21 11:31:24

Welcome aboard, Mazz21 and happy retirement. I like your idea of choosing a random country to select a meal to cook from there. I presume you find the recipes online or do you ask Alexa?
Oh, and happy anniversary to the Scentias ?

Kalu Wed 10-Feb-21 11:24:15

A warm welcome to you Mazz and Happy Retirement to look forward to days doing whatever you feel like doing now.

Kalu Wed 10-Feb-21 11:20:37

Good morning from another cold but sunny winter wonderland in Glasgow. I won’t be venturing out for a walk but will wrap up and have a tootle around the garden. I need some fresh air!

Happy Anniversary Mr &Mrs Scentia. ??

Hope everyone has a good day and something comes along to lift your spirits.

Mazz21 Wed 10-Feb-21 11:13:37

Wow, this is a lovely chatty friendly group. So pleased I stumbled upon it.

Cold but sunny here in Dorset so will pop out for a walk a bit later. Until last Friday I was still working but I’ve retired properly now - I actually retired in March last year but worked for the NHS so went back to help out for a bit.

Leftovers for us tonight. We get a random country off Alexa each week and cook a meal from there. Last night was Croatia - previously Japan, Macedonia and Ethiopia. Next week Australia. We can’t travel anywhere but it’s a way of feeling we have! ?

Have a super day everyone ?

Taichinan Wed 10-Feb-21 10:52:27

Good morning from a snow covered Angus coast - much the same as everyone else, really! DD in Perthshire sent me a photo of her frozen hair during her dog walk this morning - I said it was just as well she doesn't have a moustache!!
Happy anniversary to the Scentias - enjoy your happy memories. So glad you had a good day yesterday Marydoll with so much achieved. Hope your jab is straightforward too - you'll be so glad to have it, I know. Sorry to hear about your battered paint delivery Grandmafrench. It sounds as if there might be a touche resentment of Brexit on the part of some of the dockers? (Or am I just an old cynic.). Well done Elizabeth with all your exercise - you're doing so well. Sheep -brrrr! I hope your icebreaking was quickly achieved, and also that your supply trip is successful. I watch that farm programme on BBC1 each afternoon and am so in awe of the hard work of farming folk. When I was wee I dreamed of growing up to be a farmer's wife (so I could drive a tractor!) but I don't think I'd have been an asset!! Even then I delicately tiptoed around the hen droppings when I visited farms with my dad ?
My Tesco order has just been efficiently delivered. I do wish some of these delivery men realised what a lifeline their cheery presence is to those for whom they are the only human contact from one week's end to the next. This one was the epitome of an UNhappy bunny. I think the heating in his cab must have failed, and his boots were letting in the snow AND he'd a row with his wife before breakfast - in which case I don't blame him for his inability to crack a smile! Even his dog, which accompanied him, echoed his vibe ?
Now I must off and check the leaking pond and just hope I don't have to dig the hose out to top it up. I filled it to the brim two days ago so ?
Have the best day you can everyone and stay safe and cosy. ??

Megs36 Wed 10-Feb-21 10:51:06

Morning all, about being exempt from wearing face covering, my husband also has COPD and has not enquired about an exemption, he finds as do many of us, a mask is difficult but finds it ‘protective’ in this very cold weather, on the very rare occasions he steps outside! but to be honest he just follows The Rules as much as possible and StaysHome. We have online deliveries all the time now, I wonder if we’ll continue with them when going out is back to some kind of normal.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 10-Feb-21 10:48:00

Good Morning all from snowy Harrogate - we don't have as much as we had last month, but it's enough to keep the children happy!!
This morning nothing much planned - possibly some cleaning? Maybe phoning?
Marydoll glad you are on the road to being sorted. I agree with others, Mick I have Bronchiectasis and am breathless, but wouldn't dream of going out without my mask. I know if I got COVID it would be curtains for me and I"m not ready, too much to do!!

Keep well, keep safe, tomorrow is another day!

grandMattie Wed 10-Feb-21 10:42:38

Thanks, Auntieflo, but DH’s hormones are for life, or until they stop holding back his terminal prostate cancer. He is terribly well apart from wretched flushes! ?

Auntieflo Wed 10-Feb-21 10:32:03

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all. Here in our bit of Berks, we woke up, late, to a beautiful sunny day. Crisp and cold it may be, when I go outside, but so bright and uplifting.
Mick, many have said it, and we know you love your routine and trips out, but you should really try and keep inside more. At least when you do venture out, PLEASE wear a face mask or shield. You say you have COPD, so should you be out in this breath taking cold. Sorry, and hugs to you, you start our day off brilliantly, and we all appreciate you. BUT, we need you here to begin the day, not in hospital, again. Also, I don't want to be put on the norty step for harassing a GN poster.
(I hope I haven't disgraced myself for giving you a talking to Mick.)

Apologies to all who have had to read this, and now...

So pleased for Marydoll That she is to bet her sh*t and will have her tooth/teeth fixed. Albeit at an eye watering expense.
Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Scentia
Grandmafrench, what a mess. Literally, with your paint delivery. The tins must have been bounced around many times, to be so damaged. Happy painting, when you receive the replacements.
I have finished my crochet, and now need another project. Any suggestions gratefully accepted. BlueSapphire, show us what you will be making please.
Pantglas and EV, I have crumpets in the freezer, so they may come out for lunch. So tempting every time they are mentioned, as I do love them. But it was Muesli for breakfast, with apricots. Nice. Supper is still a mystery, so far.
Best wishes to your DH GrandMattie. My DH had his final hormone injection in November. He didn't have bad flushes, but never complained. Just regular blood tests now.
I was hoping to be more organised and remember all the previous posts, but as usual I have forgotten who said what, so will have to read again later.
A blood test for me at lunch time today, so must go and get myself ready to face the day.
Take care all of you, keep safe and enjoy the day.

muse Wed 10-Feb-21 10:27:59

This must be the coldest morning yet.
Maydoll hope Mick reads what you have said. Pleased the dentist so understandable. Costly but worthwhile in the end. Two years ago I had a front tooth causing constant pain. In the end I had that tooth and two others removed (that were on their way to being as troublesome as the other) and a compound bridge fitted. It cost me £2000 and it means no more work will should ever be need at the front.

Crumpets Lots of chat this morning about these delicious offerings. NannyJan53 I've had piklets and crumpets when I lived in Derbyshire. They are just like crumpets but flatter. Crumpets are made in a ring to give them the height and hold more butter grin. Love mine with toasted cheese on.

Beechnut My Sainsbugs sell the sourdough crumpets and muffins.

Sheepandcattle crispy mud here too in Cornwall except for one patch under the trees. Very very cold on our dog walk at 8:00am. Mainly blue skies. Good luck with the MOT. My only other vehicles to choose from, if mine is delayed at the garage, are a choice of digger or dumper. grin I'd get a good shop done with the dumper.

Watch those roads everyone. Good to hear vaccinations are steaming ahead. Please book appointments folks. Such long queues on our local news with people turning up without.

Blossoming Wed 10-Feb-21 10:03:19

Good morning all. Bright and cold in Lancashire today. It looks quite icy outside. Still feeling a bit fragile from the jab so I don’t think I’ll be going for a walk today. Hope everyone has a peaceful day with no dramas.

Mapleleaf Wed 10-Feb-21 10:01:37

Good morning,

A very cold, frosty morning here today. At least the snow has stopped for now and the sun us shining a bit.

Must pop out to the post box today to post a birthday card, so will have to wrap up warmly - that takes almost as long as the time it takes to reach the postbox ?.

I hope all goes well today Marydoll and the weather doesn't stop you having your vaccination. Good to hear that no infection has got into your gum, too. Fingers crossed that you don't have to wait too long for treatment, even though it sounds as if you'll need a second mortgage! ?

Be careful, everyone, if you have to be out and about. Protect yourself as much as possible.

?for all with troubles, worries or illness.

Nannagarra Wed 10-Feb-21 09:51:10

?you’ll have your sh*t tonight, Marydoll. May you be free of any after-effects.
Happy anniversary, Scentia.
Hugs to Auntieflo and Georgesgran.

mancgirl Wed 10-Feb-21 09:43:32

Ekwa we have a house about an hour from Valencia, a beautiful city. Don't know when we will get back there but a few of us on here will understand what you say about wintering in Spain. At least its it's sunny in the North West today ?
