NO, not me - but our first child. Just can't believe it, how can it be? HOW?

My eldest will be 50 in June.
His stepdad will be 60 in April!
I still act like I’m the youngest although I’m 68!

Amd Katsue. We lost our daughter in 2021.

Eloethan Sun 29-Jan-23 15:00:55

So sorry Maw.

My DS turned 40 this month, I will be 60 in march and my DD will be 40 in November.

My AC are 54 and 52. Both had children late so my grandchildren are 13, 10 and 9. My DH died 3 years ago so would never see them grow up and I pray I will.
I remember my DM saying she couldn’t believe her daughter was a pensioner too, when I reached 60.

I once knew an elderly lady who was 100 and was just about to sell her house to go into a residential home. She was upset because her son, who was 70, had a heart condition so was not able to look after her. She was more healthy than he was!

Mind you, what really brought me up short last year was when one of my son's friends, whom I have known since babyhood became a grandfather. He, admittedly, was a young, and unintended father, but his daughter was 30 when she made him a grandfather.

The year I turned 60 didn’t phase me until my daughters birthday the same year & she was 30. I felt very old all of a sudden.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 28-Jan-23 20:17:26

My baby celebrated her 48th birthday last month!

My only daughter would have been 40 last year. My GS is 21 this month. Life goes on.

CraftyGranny Sat 28-Jan-23 18:42:43

My three lads are 55, 54 and 51 this year, I must have been about 8 years old when I had the first!

Lizzie44 Sat 28-Jan-23 18:06:34

DDs in their 50s and planning to retire in the next couple of years. Grandsons are in their 20s. It seems incredible until I look at my wrinkles and thinning hair.

Romola

Heartfelt sympathy to all who have lost children, and also to those whose children, though living, were never to grow into the adults they should have become.

Thank you Romola, my oldest daughter has severe mental health problems and I feel sad about what her life could have been. I always remember the time when she was born and all we wanted was for her to have a happy life. It just hasn't happened for her.

It was enough of a shock when the oldest turned 40! She's 46 next month and all three are in their 40s now. Just keeps happening.

No matter how old - kids will be kids - and you’ll always be mom, mummy, mama. Even when you’re 90, your 70 yr old child is not going to listen to you. Hehe…
Cheers!

My FinL was horrified this year when my husband (his youngest) drew his pension grin

So many untimely losses on this thread 💐 to everyone who lost a child, regardless of age. 💕

Like you Maw we often wonder what might have been, our youngest son would have been 53 now. Thinking of you, the huge loss is always there.

Maw🌺 time just flies! I’m a nursery teacher and feel old when the kids I looked after bring there’s in now. One I used to feed jam sarnies when he played footy with my son! Eldest son 45.

MawtheMerrier

Our little boy would have been 50 this year.
I often find myself wondering, and imagining what he would have been like

Likewise me, Maw. My daughter would be 50 on June 11th. Not sure how I'll get through the day.

Bijou Sat 28-Jan-23 15:49:29

My son is a grandfather of four, the eldest is twenty two. Another on the way as my fifty two year old grandson and wife are expecting.

kittypaws49 Sat 28-Jan-23 15:42:03

My lovely boy would have been 40 this month. Always thought I would see him with his first grey hairs, I told him, I just want to live to see you grow old, but it was not to be.
