Just that really.

Urms it is a title. The child's name is Lilibet Diana.

Maybe next they'll decide to drop her first name, and call her...
Oh! Wait... 🤫😐

Glorianny Wed 08-Mar-23 20:19:38

Apparently they want her to decide for herself if she uses the title when she gets older.I suppose that's reasonable.
If they had refused it could she have reclaimed it if she wanted to?

Blossoming Wed 08-Mar-23 20:21:27

Sorry to disappoint you BlueBelle and Casdon but I am correct.

Archaic royal rules mean only the offspring of male royal heirs may pass on their honours, making them princes or princesses.

As such, the Princess Royal's children could not inherit titles, but the Queen did make her daughter an offer, which Princess Anne refused.

Casdon Wed 08-Mar-23 20:30:52

You’re right, but also wrong Blossoming. As you said, the Queen offered Anne titles for her children, we don’t know what they were but could have been princes and princesses (it’s not recorded what was offered) but she refused them. By the archaic rules Edward’s children could have been Prince and Princess, but as he was an earl he decided that he preferred them not to be.

Casdon Wed 08-Mar-23 20:43:15

Sorry, I didn’t express that very well. What I meant was that I think Anne and Edward thought it would be a burden for their children to have the monikers as they were not going to be working members of the royal family. I thought that was also why Archie wasn’t originally given the title Prince, it just seemed sensible.

Deedaa Wed 08-Mar-23 20:49:28

Can't help wondering why they seem so keen to tell us their children are a Prince and Princess when America threw out the monarchy centuries ago. You'd almost think it was a publicity stunt.

Is anything these two do worth giving more than a seconds thought?

It is a titillating strip tease that has gone on so long all the punters have left or fallen asleep.

🙌 🙌 🙌

Urmstongran Never knowingly undersold.

Correct MOnica alongside the ‘will they, won’t they attend the coronation’.
Yawn..

Seems coincidental that the christening took place just last Friday, after all the Frogmore and South Park publicity.

Lilibet will be 2 in June, you wonder why they haven’t bothered to get her baptised earlier.

Good time to bury a bit of ‘iffy’ news, with the excitement about the Princess title.

Wonder why these non working royal parents are bothered about a title when they have trashed everything else about Harry’s family.

MawtheMerrier Wed 08-Mar-23 21:51:29

As Mummy is only a Duchess, will she have to curtsey to Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet? She could do with the practice if that clip of her first attempt to the Queen is anything to go by hmm

Callistemon21 Wed 08-Mar-23 21:53:40

Oh yes, can you imagine the fun they'll have making Mummy curtsey!

And when they become stroppy teenagers - "You cannot tell me what to do, you're only a Duchess and I'm a Prince/Princess"

I don't understand how H&M can't recognise the hypocrisy in this.

Nor me.

NotTooOld Wed 08-Mar-23 21:59:19

Seems a daft idea considering the opinions they apparently hold of the royal family. Why would they call the sprogs prince and princess? Oh, yes, silly me. Publicity, of course.

annsixty Wed 08-Mar-23 22:00:24

Of course they can, they choose not to.

annsixty Wed 08-Mar-23 22:02:25

The titles, along with their given names sound like something out of a pantomime.

eazybee Wed 08-Mar-23 22:15:43

Everything they have done recently has been aimed to cause the maximum discomfort to the royal family, except that it isn't. Everyone is laughing at them.

She has the power decide that for herself when she is an adult, as is the case for Prince Edward’s children. They don’t need to burden her now with a title she will henceforth be stuck with whether she likes it or not.

Rosie51 Wed 08-Mar-23 22:36:23

Why on earth would a modern citizen of the USA want to be known as a Prince or Princess of the UK? Surely not for prestige or privilege purposes? For someone that hates the 'Firm' Harry sure likes all the advantages.

This was a deliberately provocative announcement given the Palace website still lists her as Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. Why on earth, given Harry's hatred of the Royal family and its practices do they want her to be styled 'Princess'?

You know why😂
They’re entitled vain people who want it all, dosh, fame and royal titles.

Of course I do 😂 If there's a £ or $ to be made they're front of the queue. Hypocrites is much too kind a description.

maddyone Wed 08-Mar-23 23:04:26

So has she made a princess or not? Has Charles agreed it? I know the children are entitled to use the titles prince and princess now their grandfather is king, but I thought the king would need to agree it. Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know.

Zoejory Wed 08-Mar-23 23:16:13

The Palace have agreed to this, apparently, and will alter the website shortly.

Lexisgranny Wed 08-Mar-23 23:18:39

For those who “give a damn” it would be interesting to see when/whether her title (and presumably that of her brother) will be altered in list of succession on the Royal family’s website.

maddyone Wed 08-Mar-23 23:37:11

Thanks Zoe, though not sure what use the titles will be in America.
