The SNP is in a ‘tremendous mess’ apparently.

Since these two stepped down within weeks of one another the SNP seems to be imploding at a rate of knots.

What on Earth is going on? There is so much in-flighting.

Urmstongran Mon 20-Mar-23 17:25:24

I think the SNP’s decline will continue now no matter who is elected as First Minister. The SNP are in power until 2026. How much more damage can they inflict upon Scotland until then?

Sorry guys I’m all for Nicola Sturgeon
SNP give us free prescriptions, free bus passes, free baby boxes they’ve just reintroduced a new local railway line,
I thought she spoke very well on loose women
she deserves a break
Only factual comments please

Watch this space all you critics

Urmstongran Mon 20-Mar-23 17:45:10

Well they are very popular mcss so as you say - watch this space!

But don’t you feel annoyed about the ferries fiasco, the ‘missing’ £600,000 or being the drugs capital of Europe?

It’s certainly not all roses around the front door of Scotland.

Urmstongran Mon 20-Mar-23 17:52:10

Actually I didn’t realise until recently that Tony Blair was born in Edinburgh. 6 May 1953 to be exact. Maybe that was why he had a soft spot over Scottish devolution?

You do make me smile Urmstongran. Surely thistles will be round the front door in Scotland, roses are England?

M0nica Mon 20-Mar-23 19:31:02

Roses or thistles, it won't make those ferries suddenly be complete on time and on budget. 5 years overdue and how much money unacounted for or paid in bonuses to the directors?

DH, by profession is a Naval Architect (ship designer). We have been watching the fiasco of these ferries for 4 or 5 years now, with a mixture of amusement and contempt.

Aveline Mon 20-Mar-23 19:36:05

I'd be amused by it all but unfortunately I've had to live in the Scotland created by the SNP. Downhill all the way despite their spin that everything is lovely up here. Ironic that their head of communications had to resign after finding that he'd been given a load of codswallop by the SNP hierarchy. What shock next?

Aveline Mon 20-Mar-23 19:37:32

multicolourswapshop who pays for the freebies?

Only factual comments please

Are we not allowed to express opinions?

Aveline Mon 20-Mar-23 20:37:35

Plenty of factual comments on the SNPs dire effect on Scotland.

paddyann54 Mon 20-Mar-23 20:50:56

The ferries ??

What about the whole fleet of ships sitting in southern ports with defective propellers cost= billions
What about the flagship that broke down on its first and second run out
What about the "Queen Elizabeth Line 7 YEARS late and billions over budget and its Bond Street Station even later and even more over budget
Or can we talk about PPE ? Billions handed out to mates for unuseable products..some costing millions in storage charges even now

Or my favourite fail HS2 DECADES late and costs still rising .

Or any one of dozens of other Tory failures costing not just England but Scotland and the rUK and all apparently acceptable by Grans on here .

Scotland survives on a fixed budget and it balances every year.
Not so in England

But the ferries!!!!!

I can tell you that although the membership fell by 20,000 its back on the rise .

Strange that when the Labour membership fell by much more we were told STARMER was saving labour ....yet no new rise in membership Certainly not here

I can tell you that this mythical missing 600k (raised by SNP members) is still sitting in an SNP account waiting for an Independence campaign all verified by police Scotland .

That while we are sad at losing Nicola and Peter who won us elections that handing over to the next generation is right and they will still have our support .

Isn't this a strange "union " ? England is bankrupting us and the only thing you're bothered about is The Ferries.

Oreo Mon 20-Mar-23 21:09:12

The dream is over paddyann54
It’s downhill all the way now for independence. Everyone at the top has resigned, maybe before they were pushed.
There are questions to be answered and Sturgeon and husband better have a good solicitor handy.

Callistemon21 Mon 20-Mar-23 21:27:14

handing over to the next generation is right

The next generation?

You make Nicola Sturgeon sound aged and past it - she's only 52!

JaneJudge Mon 20-Mar-23 21:31:18

our town - yes town, not count or borough- council has 'lost' over 800k in Englnd, no one seems to care at all

SueDonim Mon 20-Mar-23 22:10:35

🤣 at the whataboutery on this thread! That’s hardly a defence.

I’m also laughing at Sturgeon’s claim that the current mess in the SNP is ‘growing pains’. More like shrinking pains! grin

HousePlantQueen Mon 20-Mar-23 23:09:45

All of those examples of mal administration and sheer bloody incompetence anger me as well Paddyanne, but whataboutery is not helpful. Whatever comes out of this SNP mess, the fact remains that Ms Sturgeon failed you and her party and her supporters by simply walking away without succession planning in place. We can only guess what else, if anything, is to unfold.

M0nica Mon 20-Mar-23 23:25:00

HS2, and the Aircraft carriers are huge £ multi billion very high tech projects. I agree, both were a mistake.

Inter island ferries are anything but high tech, the Chinese and Italians produce ferries like these like shelling peas. identical ferry, after identical ferry, month by month. Low tech floating tin cans - and none the worse for that. I think the total cost for these two was originally £72 million. It is now at least £240 million and may rise further. It is possible that the the ferries are so faulty that they will have to be scrapped before they are completed.

For £240 the Scottish government could have bought 2 ferries from a ferry factory, paid the ship yard workers £500,000 each to retire on or start a new life elsewhere in Scotland. Highly skilled men like them should have no trouble finding new jobs in new locations.

The problems are not high tech they are bad management, bad building and, possibly, money drifting places it cannot be fully accounted for.

I am sorry paddyanne you have always been one to dish out to other people hot and strong, you must learn to take it when circumstances are reversed.

M0nica Mon 20-Mar-23 23:25:35

For £240 MILLION

nanna8 Mon 20-Mar-23 23:25:58

I’d say, in a sudden resignation like this one,to ‘follow the money’ if past resignations are anything to go by. A thought.

multicolourswapshop Mon 20-Mar-23 23:27:13

Not you Aveline so no need to worry

M0nica Mon 20-Mar-23 23:27:38

'next generation' has nothing to do with age, everything to do with time in power. One of the most important skills you need when at the top of the political greasy pole is to know when to go. Harold Wilson got it right, Margaret Thatcher got it wrong.

Granny23 Mon 20-Mar-23 23:46:03

nanna8 Do you not think that the recent threats (which are being taken seriously by the Police) to assassinate Nicola Sturgeon and close members of her family may have had some influence on her decision to step down from leadership now?

nanna8 Tue 21-Mar-23 01:23:19

No idea, I don’t know the woman and I had no idea about any threats because she is not on our radar. I was speaking generally when people go unexpectedly quickly, as she did.

Aveline Tue 21-Mar-23 06:03:29

Granny24 I very much doubt it but nice try.
