No, not just the nodding off on front of Escape to the Country or Bergerac, this was a full blown lie down on the bed nap.
I have just got up after an hour and a half and it was wonderful.
I had an excellent night’s sleep last night thank you Nytol) and wonder whether maybe that hadn’t quite worn off, but oh my goodness I feel so much more rested now.
What on earth do babies and toddlers complain about? ? ? smile

I love having an afternoon nap. There's no pattern to weekday naps, but the whole family knows not to contact me on Saturday afternoons because I am happily napping. smile

Oh Yes, a little 'nanna nap' is perfect, especially on a wintery afternoon. Snuggled up on the sofa with heating on, the tv or raidio playing to sooth you off into that twilight world for a little while. When you come too you feel refreshed and ready to carry on with your day. Cant beat 'em smile

Love napping in the shade on a warm summer afternoon

Hate it if I (rarely) drop off during the day. I feel very discombobulated.

I was awake most of last night, so I was surprised to wake up on the sofa in the conservatory this afternoon, I felt more awake and chipper after my 2 hour nap.

I was reading a book at the time...........

I often drop off late in the afternoon, just for about half an hour. However, today I went into my bedroom to fetch something and my bed looked so inviting that I just got under the duvet, opened a book and fell asleep. I felt slightly miffed when the phone woke me up!

I remember my Mum and Dad always had a 'lie down' on Sunday after lunch. My sister and I went to Sunday school.
I don't often nap now and then only for about 10-15 mins. Works wonders though

grin
The warm conservatory has a lot to answer for, I often nod off in there for an hour with a book on my lap.
Maw yes, Nytol does have a bit of an after effect I find, and never use it if I have a busy day the next day, but now and then it does give you a blissful sleep.

BB I thought that kind of a ‘lie down’ by parents had quite a different reason.shock

NanKate Tue 25-Sep-18 21:36:46

I regularly have a nap after lunch listening to a meditation Free on YouTubemusic, or I lie outstretched in the reclining chair with my feet up listening to Tibetan Bells through Alexa.

Ohh - I love sleeping but dont often get an afternoon nap. When I do it's absolute blissss. ??

Well it’s 3.25 am, I’ve been wide awake since 2.30 and I can probably blame it on the afternoon nap in the conservatory.

As I have to be up early to dog sit, do I keep trying to go to sleep or just get up and do some ironing?

AN Other here whose parents used to have a rest on Sunday afternoons, whilst brother and me were dispatched off to Sunday School.
Now I find that I need a zzzzz during the afternoon. Usually between 3-4. I can sleep on the sofa and wake refreshed. DH looks at me, says T, I smile and say yes, and on we go. Routine now, and it suits me.

My afternoon naps are usually after Bargain Hunt , but minimum is about 30 minutes.
I also used to this at work a few years ago when during the lunch break take 5 minutes shut eye.

PS gather it is supposed to be good for you

I have never really slept during the day unless unwell or am holidaying in " siesta" countries! I sleep, on average, between 6-7 hours a night and manage quite a busy life. DH sleeps in the afternoon and sometimes in the evening if he is " watching" TV. I someti.es wish I could nap , especially if I have a busy few days!

David1968 Wed 26-Sep-18 11:46:39

If "snoozing" was an Olympic sport, then without doubt I could represent the UK. (Ditto with "pottering". ) But I try not to nap in the daytime, so that I sleep well at night. Only exception to this would be for a "big" event, e.g. a wedding. In which case a nap before the evening event is very welcome. (And an "afternoon delight" nap is always lovely- but I guess that's another thread altogether ....)

lesley4357 Wed 26-Sep-18 12:30:11

I love a nap, but wake up feeling awful- hangover type headache - so try to avoid ☹

kathyd Wed 26-Sep-18 14:04:46

I'm with Lesley. I hate sleeping in the daytime as I feel dreadful when I wake which lasts till I go to bed. I get nothing done after I wake.
The exception is napping outside in warm weather. I feel wonderful after that.

JackyB Wed 26-Sep-18 15:00:14

This thread is making me yawn!

Catterygirl Wed 26-Sep-18 15:16:26

I love a weekend nap so I can stay up until midnight. During the week I avoid naps unless on holiday. However, I then fall asleep around 9 p.m.

mrshat Wed 26-Sep-18 15:31:03

I'm with Lesley too! If I drop off I feel dreadful when I wake and am really grumpy!

newnanny Wed 26-Sep-18 16:19:33

I have started dropping off and snoozing mid afternoon on days I do not go out for a walk. I am looking forward to the Christmas movies that will be starting soon, snuggled up with a cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire.
