Supermarket delivery success

Just heard that now Spar does home deliveries you don't need to be elderly or disable. You phone your order, give your card number and they deliver on your doorstep. If you are able to collect they will bring your bags to your car. Fantastic service even if you are not computer literate!

I have just received a phone call from Sainsbury’s. It toldmeI had been identified as an elderly and therefore vulnerable person. I may have 1 delivery slotaweek. Hurrah

It seems to me that the supermarkets have caused a lot of the problem themselves. When people started stockpiling, they reduced their opening hours drastically, ostensibly to give them more time to stack their shelves.

Now it has been reported that stockpiling has stopped to a large degree as shoppers have realised that stocks are available. If the supermarkets returned to their normal opening hours therefore, shoppers would go back to their normal pattern of shopping and the horrendous queues to get in would disappear. Social distancing would still need to be followed but people could have more confidence in finding a quieter shopping time.

The online and click and collect availability has been rarer than hen's teeth and there must be many people lucky enough to have managed to get one but who do not really need one. The over 70s with health issues should be first inline for them but despite obeying the instruction to stay at home, they (and I include myself and DH) have no option but to brave the queues to shop once a week.

Last Wednesday we went to the hour set aside for over 70s and vulnerable, at our Tesco Extra, only to find two huge queues snaking round the car park with all sorts of ages there and no-one organising it. No notices saying what we should do so we gave up and left. We shall need to try again in the coming week and the thought fills me with dread but I now have quite a list of stuff we need so it will have to be done. I wish I knew when the quieter times would be. I'd go in the middle of the night if only they would revert to 24-hour opening!

At last I have a delivery from Iceland coming later today thanks to this thread.
I am not at all happy with Tesco. I have been having online orders for years. I am over 70 with a health condition but neighbours who have not been customers are getting orders every week.
Why is this I wonder? Sainsburys were being loyal to their usual customers and they were getting their online slots.

So glad I saw this thread. I've been trying my usual asda site every day but I've now got an Iceland delivery coming on Sunday.

I too have become very frustrated trying to arrange grocery deliveries - not considered eligible as not in Gov.Uk list. I was starting to panic then heard Iceland had free slots. Joined immediately, very straightforward, ticked ‘elderly’ box and was given a delivery slot for Sunday. Good selection of of fresh vegetables and dairy products. Very easy order form to navigate. Impressed

Iceland Success! Thank you to those above that encouraged me to try Iceland again just now. I have got a delivery for tomorrow evening. I hope I can relieve my kids of some of the shopping burden now.

Nandalot if you have a Nectar card try contacting Sainsbury’s they seem to be better organised.

Here in North Somerset supplies within the supermarkets themselves are improving rapidly. I believe that the situation is similar in many parts of the country.

So, if you cannot obtain a delivery slot to go directly to a supermarket could now bring all you require. If you are unable to shop yourself due to being in a vulnerable group there seem to be very many volunteer groups out there now who are only too willing to carry out shopping duties for others.

I think we should all thank the superhuman efforts of all those working in the specific food and supermarket distribution centres along with the truck delivery drivers for all they have done to keep up supplies into the supermarkets in the face of wholesale panic buying.

Iceland order delivered today and I'm so pleased that most items have arrived. Missing items were powdered milk and toilet rolls and some subsituted items but very grateful to get what I did.

Sainsbury's emailed me to tell me I was on their 'list' and am thankful to have had a delivery every week, and have a slot for next Monday. My substitutions have been ok so far.
But I was told today I could only have one steak - how do they know I don't have a partner? We could have been planning a steak dinner for the two of us!

My Tesco delivery came not in bags but it was fine, no blue milk or antiseptic wipes but everything else was there including Easter eggs I ordered for the girls. I was so grateful the driver said they are taking on lots more drivers so the slots should be more soon.

Just received my delivery, almost all there, including a 4 pint skimmed milk, which has been impossible to find in this area for at least 2 weeks

We have just been told by Tesco after we have had online deliveries for years with them that they are stopping our delivery account so that they can prioritise vulnerable customers. Fair enough, but we are both over 70, both with asthma and high blood pressure, I thought we might have come in that category. Have tried to contact them but it is a circular chase which leads nowhere.... Really frustrated.

Holy moly. Got an Iceland slot for tomorrow. Ordered for ages from them, but they have been so busy obviously.

Got things that I can’t get from the corner shop like fruit and veg. Oh, and butter.
My friends son has got a new job delivering for them this week. They are taking hygiene very seriously. His manager reckons that when things calm down home delivery will really take off because people who never used it before will carry on with it and he might be kept on.

Tesco are delivering with bags,and not that it matters but there is no charge for them.

Tanith no bags means that unfortunately you will have to have your bags/boxes ready by the door to transfer items either from their crates or your doorstep. Hopefully they will reintroduce plastic bags for the time being.

Morrison’s delivery today. Only one missing item and two substitutions. Much delight here. . I also can find no more slots charley. Waitrose won’t let me order as we’re not in their ‘at risk’ because of age list, probably because the on line system won’t let me attach the Waitrose loyalty card. I’ve emailed. Don’t expect a quick response though. N Sainsbury sometimes offer a slot, so we’re pretty well served here. We’ll be fine for things other than milk and bread for a couple of weeks. Apparently the nearest farm shop has both and no customers, will head there and see. If all else fails I’ll go to Waitrose as their system is pretty good.

I ordered with Morrisons for 3 household and the delivery came on Tuesday 2 days ago. Everything was bagged, the fellow was going to leave them in the street but there is no way I could have managed to lift that amount indoor. He kindly left in my hall while I stayed in the living room with the door closed.

There were many substitutions but nothing vital.

I have tried to get another Morrison's online slot but zilch available even until the end of April. I think I will be shopping at Waitrose the closest or Lidl the cheapest.

I've been back on Iceland and have managed to book another slot for tomorrow.I booked earliest delivery in the day so hope it might mean that I will get the items that didn't arrive in my order yesterday.
