One day I saw a leprechaun, a-sitting on a tree
I asked him what his name was and he said unto me
Squash in, Butternut, you're just in time for tea
I've a tale to tell, if you have time, of wonder and of glee
A tale of my adventures on land and on the sea
Butternut, Squash up - make room - for Granny 23
I've toured in my camper van
and stopped for tea with harrigran
Because I was so silly, I couldn't cut and paste
But with help from bags and granny, I did it with much haste -
The leprechaun was happy and leaned down from the tree,
Swiped my hat from off my head and laughed merrily at me,
"Can you see my mum and dad - just there across the way?
They're eating fish paste sandwiches, with tea upon a tray!"
But in that glass beside them (they're sharing it you see)
It's really something stronger than what it looks like (tea)
It could be gin (that makes you sin) or a frisky whisky blend
Or even better, jellied eels with sharp green liquor if I'd the cash to spend
They sipped and supped, and supped and sipped
Until they were all at sea
So off they sailed, in a pea green boat, to the land of the Gransnetree
But let's move on from sandwiches
And tea and gin and stuff
It's time to party, guys and gals,
So meet my friend, the chough.
He wears his orange beak just so,
Black feathers just like that
And never has he in his life
Worn scarf or socks or hat.
The chough you say?
We’re not impressed
Because as we all know,
His name cannot disguise the fact
He’s but a squawking crow.
Merlin, Plover, Skylark, Dove
Flew Devon’s air today
And the cocked tailed, whiskered Great Bustard
Put on a G-R-E-A-T display
You might just think that it's not true
Or a fantastical wish
But if you look it up you'll see
The bird was in South Huish
