Evening, & usual good wishes.

Now, could do with a bit of inspiration.

I had some meat left over from a lovely rib of beef, have put it through the mincer, it is now in the freezer.

Will be making rissoles, adding some onion and probably turmeric and cumin (have done this before, gives a sort of Middle East type flavour)

Problem is, what to serve with them confused

I think couscous, but Mr P isn't that keen on it.

Any suggestions?

Mum's rissoles were great but I never did know how she made them----I was too busy eating them. She used to make " specials " with them and they are battered sliced potatoes.

My Mum used an old fashioned mincer to mince up the remains of the weekend joint. I think she added mashed potato etc then fried in spoonfuls. She was a good cook and never wasted anything.
I looked up the derivation of rissoles and most say it comes from words for 'a reddish colour - rousse' . Not very convincing.

I remember having them and really liking them when I was little - I remember quite a distinctive style of minced flavoured meat and a breadcrumbs coating - does anyone know of a nice simple recipe that a comparative dissolve virgin could follow? Thanks in advance.

Almost forgot, my son works in Barcelona and there is a brilliant Argentinian steakhouse there which does a fabulous garlic mash. He got me the recipe - you just boil some nice potatoes in chicken stock with 3 cloves of garlic. When soft, drain, just leaving a little of the stock, add a good knob of butter and a good slug of cream. You can then mash or crush them then pop into an oven proof dish for about 15_20 mins on 200. They are so good and I can imagine them with rissoles and a sauce or gravy. Nice.

We have rissoles on a regular basis OH loves them and eldest DGS will always appear if he knows they are the evening meal menu, lately I have been serving them with Jersey Royals I use them for most evening meals at the minute as they have such a short life span.

More Jersey's for me today too after having had them yesterday with lamb, fresh carrot and swede too and a chunk of my overly-rich orange drizzle cake------it's like a tram-wrecker ! Definitely not for dieters smile)
