Not all sushi contains fish. I occasionally buy a pack from Waitrose, 5 pieces: 4 are rice and vegetables, wrapped in seaweed. The fifth is wrapped in smoked salmon.

Or do you not eat smoked salmon either?

I would never even try sushi as I know that raw fish can have worms.

Rabbit, I'm not veggie or vegan, but I just couldn't eat a little bunny!

Ah, yes, rabbit. I served up rabbit stew once, when the children were around 9 and 6 years old. They asked what meat it was, so I told them. They asked if it was like a friend's pet rabbit...I said well, yes it was, kind of.

They ate everything. I've not eaten rabbit since...

Doner kebab, mussels and the ilk, tripe, eel jellied or not. Plus, there are things I used to eat but wouldn’t now, top of the list being runny eggs, have to be thoroughly set. To think that when I was a teenager I used to love dipping chips into the runny yolk of a fried egg! A thought which now nauseates me.

Quinoa
Olives
Never had jellied eels but love pie & mash
Lentils chickpeas

I think I’ve tried most food that’s even vaguely popular in the UK, I feel duty bound as I used to say to my children ‘how do you know you don’t like it until you’ve tried it’.
I wouldn’t eat again tongue, oxtail, tripe, hearts, seafood in shells, sushi and peppers. The rest of it, I’m ok with.

Any fried egg with a bright yellow/orange yolk, meaning that there’s a layer of revolting, slimy, uncooked egg white on top.?

So few people seem to know how to cook fried eggs properly - i.e they way I like them! wink

Toad in the hole..sausages in batter seems very odd to me ,its certainly not something I ever came across as a child,in fact sausages in my mind are breakfast food..usually square sausage on a roll .I cant even bring myself to try the batter with sausage in it I always think it must be greasy and uninspiring .

I couldn’t stand it, as you say ‘greasy and uninspiring’ but DH loved it. Finally sorted it by oven cooking the sausages and then adding them to the batter. Still not a favourite.

Sushi is something I’ve never tried and am not tempted by. There are a few things I don’t like and wouldn’t eat again after being put off by the first bite.

Hi paddyanne Deep Fried Mars Bars are definitely out there. After lockdown get yourself over to Stonehaven on the East Coast of Scotland (my ancient homeland). Google the Carron Fish and Chip Shop... they used to claim to be the birthplace of the DFMB until another chippie challenged them for the title! My son tried one from there last year and he lived to tell the tale....I'm not sure I would hmm

What! Life without butter!?

I know! I struggle to sandwiches unless they have mayo or pickle in to stick the bread together!

henetha Fri 19-Feb-21 12:21:13

We kept chicken when I was young, during the war, and mum used to pickle eggs so I'm used to them, and also preserve some in issinglass.

Nannarose Fri 19-Feb-21 12:16:26

Maybee - picked eggs were one way of preserving eggs during the winter when hens wen't laying well. I think folk have forgotten that eggs are seasonal in the hens' natural state.
Does anyone else remember painting eggs with isinglass to preserve them?

M0nica Fri 19-Feb-21 12:14:32

I am another hard pushed to think of any food I haven't actually tried once. Certainly I have tried everything listed so far.

I have even tried a KFC meal - and that truly heads the list of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten.

Dragonella I think you should have added 'to me' to your comments about Thai and Mexican food. I have been careful to make sure that my opinion on KFC is personal.

For many people, including me, both cuisines smell as good as they taste.

I don't think it was fresh JaneJudge I was encouraged to take a couple home in a doggy bag at a function. "They're lovely," I was told. No, it wasn't and I spat it out which is unusual for me. I didn't know what it was - if I'd known I would have left it, not being a lover of onions. Although I hate wasting food the second went straight in the bin.

MadeInYorkshire Fri 19-Feb-21 11:19:27

Butter and margarine - can't even stand the sight of it!!

Apparently though when I was really small, and I do not remember this at all, I used to eat Lurpak off the block - giving me the heave thinking about it!!

The other one is custard, can't stand the smell of it! Took me until I was in my 20's to try a cheese sauce, and love Parsley sauce so not sure why the custardy thing - for the same reason really can't abide shop bought quiche, all full of congealed egg! Now my quiche is all filling and a fluffy mixture of egg and cream, nothing like, and I love that though not at all good for the waistline!
