What Popular Food Do You Hate?

I love just about anything vegetable and vegetable soup is my ‘go to’ comfort food, but I cannot stomach butternut squash under any circumstances. It really surprised me that I hated it the first time I tried a butternut squash soup, and it seems to be everywhere these days!

My sister-in-law tried to fool me by not telling me it was in a vegetable soup she made, but my stomach knew. It came back up faster than it went down. My sister-in-law is a very good cook btw so there was nothing intrinsically wrong with the soup.

Any fellow sufferers?

Can’t think of anything I hate, so reading all the above lists is making me hungry. My wife can’t stand okra and not keen on coriander.

I have tried these and still don't like them:
Marzipan
Most nuts but especially almonds - unless ground in a cake, coconut - unless milk, hazelnuts and worst of all walnuts
Oranges - unless it's the juice
Semolina
Parsnips
Wholemeal bread

Dried dates/figs
Glace cherries

Black forest gateau, strawberry ice-cream, more than one mouthful of chocolate.
Tripe: back in the student days bought some with a friend as it was cheap - it went in the bin after we tried cooking in milk & fried.
Now don't eat any meat at all.
DM used to make Ground rice pudding with raisins ? yet I don't mind semolina?

Garlic - it seems to be added to everything these days.

Honey and silver beet. I can eat honey of it is cooked with soy but I can’t eat it on bread. I have never liked silver beet but I don’t mind spinach which is similar. Oh and those miniature sweet corns you get in Chinese dishes. I pick them out. Vile little things.

Beetroot, peppers and chillies, all bottled sauces apart from mayo, tea, coffee, any more than a hint of garlic, coriander, cloves, Cadbury's cream eggs, and Christmas cake or pudding.

I am sure I shall think of many more items later, but I am not really a fussy eater! smile

By far and away my most hated foods are;-

- anything mint flavoured (I even gag on toothpaste- have been know to retch and have to move seats if someone sits next to me in the cinema or theatre sucking mints)

- mayonnaise- slimy nastiness.

Just for completion I would like to add that I consider parsnips and beetroot the Devil's Vegetables.

I will admit I’ve never tasted it, but those big rolls of meat from which slices are carved in takeaway restaurants look like a bacteria paradise to me.

Granny23 Wed 10-Mar-21 11:49:34

CHEESE and everything from that family - yogurt, creme fraiche, sour cream, etc. I have an allergy to/ intolerance of the bacterium that 'turns' fresh milk. Was never a problem in my childhood as my Mother was the same, nor for much of my married life, as we seldom ate out, but then there was this fad for using these cheesy things in soups, sauces, desserts. I have an almost immediate reaction (stomach pain, sickness and diarrhoea) if I inadvertently consume them but each time the dire effects last longer - nearly a week when I had one bite of a 'cream' cake at a funeral tea. This reaction has ruined many celebrations/days out/holidays for me. It seems to be a rare thing in the UK (though common in Italy) so no warnings on menus or packaging.

Any egg cooked any way.

I don't think I have ever tried a poached or scrambled egg. Or an omelette.
Certainly not fried envy

I've attempted eat a bit of boiled egg a few times over the years, to no degree of success. The smell, the look, the texture. Oh, dear me, no.

I really wish that I did like eggs as I don't eat meat and they are a good alternative source of protein.

But I manage to make up for it with my prodigious consumption of cheese.

I can see from other posts here I’m not alone but I have to say also CORIANDER. The taste turns to soap in my mouth.

Jaxjacky Wed 10-Mar-21 21:24:51

Won’t eat again, but have tried: sushi, seafood in shells, peppers, hearts and tripe. Always encouraged my children to try things before they decided they didn’t like them, so I do try new foods,

Lollin Wed 10-Mar-21 22:11:26

Radishes.
Chutneys made from anything leftover from the vegetable growers amongst the people I know. Accept with gratitude, try and have to bin.

grannyrebel7 Wed 10-Mar-21 22:15:39

Prawns and that's it. I like everything else.

gulligranny Wed 10-Mar-21 22:20:01

Avocados
Amy type of blue or runny cheese
Peanut butter
Kale

Sara1954 Wed 10-Mar-21 22:32:35

Olives
Coriander
Red meat
Mushrooms
Sweet corn
Frozen peas
Fizzy drinks (except gin and tonic)

Nannagarra Wed 10-Mar-21 23:05:13

Coriander, tarragon, white fish (but happily eat fish fingers), marzipan (but love ground almonds).
Pernod, gin, tonic, white wine - would sooner drink water. I bet few agree with me...
Find bacon and pork whilst cooking smell of ‘boar taint’ but I manage to eat them.

I eat just about anything and love a lot of things that many of you seem to dislike! I can’t stomach olives or offal but do like pate. Not bad going for someone who was a seriously fussy eater as a child!
