Can anyone tell me how long a magnolia tree flowers for. It's beautiful to look at but out three times a day picking up the blossom and an hour later the lawn is covered again. As you can tell very new to gardening. Thanks

They are truly gorgeous. Maybe chill out a bit. Leave the petals till the end of the day and just go out the once? Or less! It’s natural, it’s outside, it’s not as if you’re picking up toys from your carpet.

Sorry, I don’t know the flowering season!

Magnolias have a short flowering season, March to April usually. Ours are just beginning to open here in Northumberland.

If it's the deciduous magnolia with goblet shaped flowers, the latter emerge before the leaves. Once the leaves start to emerge the flowers will start to fade although it's possible to get another flush later in the year. They are beautiful trees and shrubs and and particularly good this year. Yes, the petals do drop as do camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas all prone to being damaged by frost. The petals are a slippery, slimy pain to clear. I know as I worked at an RHS show garden where this was one of my jobs but it's worth it just to see these plants in all their glory.

My neighbour has a huge Magnolia grandiflora in her garden. Lemon scented flowers the size of a dinner plate. Absolutely beautiful. Doesn't last that long but amazing whilst it does.

Thank you all for your comments. We will start to leave them till the end of the day and just clear the drive. Don't know what type is but the blossom is pink and white.

If the petals are on the driveway then my way of clearing wont work, but I put the lawn mower on high and mow them off the lawn every 2/3 days. Chopped up they go into the compost bin.
On the bed underneath the tree (which is large having been there since before we were) I leave the leaves (!) to break down into the soil, as they turn brown and don't show very much.
Pathways and driveways need a different approach!!
