"Bursting with Joy"

I moved to a new build two years ago and with larger garden decided to try my inexperienced hand at growing fruit trees. My favourite apple “Cox’s Orange Pippin” but told the variety does not do well in the North East but took a chance. It has grown well and looks content but its first year 2020 harvest TWO SMALL APPLES. They were high winds on Monday and Tuesday this week and one apple blown on the ground. On investigation second apple dropped into my hand – two miserable looking specimens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, cut one in half at lunchtime today – joy oh joy, smelt like a Cox and sweet taste burst through like one too. Whoopy!! DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER – OR AN APPLE BY ITS SKIN.

September is the time to harvest apples so it’s no wonder they came off in the wind, you’ll have a better crop next year but well done on your first try.

The spicey flavour of Cox's reminds me of autumn, my favourite season.

Our Coxes are all eaten now, but there is another lovely apple we have called Waltz, crisp and red and delicious

I had a similar experience with a few measly but tasty fruits appearing. The next autumn the tree was covered in delicious apples.

I had a tree full so many to give away I didn’t plant it and was unsure what it is but comparing to the apples in the shops I m pretty sure is a golden delicious

Apples usually ready either in Sept or Oct depending on the variety, it’s usual to only get a few the first year, but you will be amazed at how many you get in a few years. Our two different trees keep us supplied for ages. They taste so much better than store bought ( like all fruit and veg.)?

So satisfying ?

Problem with Cox’s is that they are not self fertile and new TWO different varieties to pollinate.
