Oh dear, the nerines tempted me, I’ve just done an order to JParker. Unfortunately it didn’t just stop at the nerines.

I meant sow, rather than plant.

You can also grow annual Asters from seed they’re shorter than the Michaelmas daisy type and are easy to grow, it’s not too late to plant them. They don’t start flowering until August/ September so it’s best to plant them amongst earlier flowering plants.

Which company is the best to buy bulbs from?

Wilkinsons have a good range of bulbs and seeds for storage he garden. I always get my onion sets and seed potatoes from Wilko!

The plants listed above are perennials but dahlias may need lifting and keeping somewhere frost free. Then they can be started again in Spring.
Japanese Anemones are tall white or pink flowers that come back every year. The bulbs you can buy are like florists anemones and would be more tricky.

Nerines keep going year after year - the bulbs multiply and the clumps can be divided

What are those pretty purple daisies that flower in autumn? I tried to buy some last year, but couldn’t remember what they were called.

Asters. Sara.
Tried to post a pic but unsuccessful.

Brilliant post! Following with interest, thanks

I love hardy cyclamen, I planted two packs of bulbs years ago, and they multiply every year, I’ve now got a big clump that comes up reliably every autumn, and lasts for weeks.

Thank you so much for the comments, really appreciate but Could I just ask are all these bulbs yearly flowering or do they just have one year and die off.
I have tried Anemones before but they never grow.
I want plants like daffodils and tulips which come up year on year.

Autumn Crocus, Colchium, cyclamen hediofloria, Nerines, Queen Olga’s Snowdrop, Sternbergia lutea ( nicknamed Autumn daffodil but it isn’t a daffodil)

Japanese Anemones, asters , dahlias, chrysanthemums all give autumn colour

Farmor15 Sat 08-May-21 19:15:42

Nerines are great for autumn colour if you can get the bulbs - lovely bright pink.

Not too late

jeanie99 Sat 08-May-21 19:02:59

I'd love to have flowers in my garden in the Autumn. I don't have much colour at that time of the year.

Oh and is it too late to plant them now.
