This morning I dropped eldest DGD at secondary school then made the usual mad dash to get the younger children to primary school which is miles away . We just made it as usual and walking across the school playground my (10 year old) DGD’s teacher caught up with me and asked if I was in a hurry. Instead of saying “well yes I’m dashing to work” the words that came out were “eh, no, why? what can I do for you?”
It turned out that the volunteers hadn't turned up to help with a practical science lesson and they wouldn’t have enough adults per child for it to go ahead. DGD was so happy that grandma had saved the day (again) and it ended up being the best fun.

Work? It can wait ! grin

Does anyone else ever get roped in at the last minute ? It seems to happen to me often. smile

I used to get roped in to all sorts, but I'm so busy these days that I'm constantly juggling my various roles and so opportunities to be 'volunteered' for things are more limited now. In my work with homeless people I have to be very responsive so I'm more likely to have to cry off in the middle of something.
Bet your granddaughter was basking in the reflected glow from your halo - kudos to her for having a cool 'save the day' granny! smile

As a grandma I don’t get roped into any activities at school. As a young mum it was assumed by the HT at my children’s school that I would always be available.i am, however, always being roped in to child care. As in last Friday when I had a panic phone call because the Primary School was not opening.

When you live 200 miles away, it is real emergencies only. But I have driven 200 miles at a day's notice, when the nursery went bust and DS &DDiL only found out on Saturday morning. I held the fort for several days, while the parents juggled work with visiting and assessing alternative nurseries.

I now know almost all of the teachers at my DGC’s school having had 3 grandchildren there for many years and doing so many pick ups and drop offs . I think they’ve worked out that a rarely ( if ever ) say no . smile
