Worth looking at and increasing foods which are high in potassium perhaps?
Food Sources of Potassium
Bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, apricots, grapefruit (some dried fruits, such as prunes, raisins, and dates, are also high in potassium)
Cooked spinach.
Cooked broccoli.
Potatoes.
Sweet potatoes.
Mushrooms.
Peas.
Cucumbers.

Travelsafar are you on any medication? It is a known side effect especially if you are on diuretics. I need to have my sodium and potassium checked regularly because of this.

Avocado on toast for breakfast ?

Shortages can cause problems so just follow a potassium rich diet until you see the GP.

I had to see my Doc. after blood test showed low potassium. She told me to eat a banana a day to fix it. I, too, am on diuretics.

I've never had a problem in the 12 years I've taken diuretics. Whether it's because it's not your " run of the mill " water tablet I don't know for it's Spironolactone and neither does it " make me go " as some others do which would account for the non-loss of potassium in the urine.
Its main function is to prevent low levels of potassium and to prevent absorption of excess salt.

They're prescribed as a pre-heart-failure medication.

At one of my blood tests I was told I had too much potassium!

EllanVannin I'm interested in your diuretic. Was it prescribed by a consultant? I'm a bit worried about the possible low levels of potassium and sodium with my current run of the mill diuretic which I take for high bp (with two other pills).

Slow K used to be the go-to remedy for replacing potassium . Maybe it still is, for all I know.

My hubby has extremely low potassium, he has a blood test every year due to meds he takes and we just prepare ourselves for the phone call from the surgery (the first time it was from the Path Lab at the hospital) to tell him he needs to see a Dr asap, his level is around 2.5. He has had several checks now, improves his levels by eating around 4 bananas a day which has been agreed is not sustainable (!), but then it drops again back to 2.5. He eats spinach every day and only uses de-caf tea and eats high potassium foods. It would appear that he is an anomaly and he is ticking along fine with this low level, BUT, it can be a medical emergency, so I expect that if you are not being seen for a couple of weeks that your result is just out of normal range. My hubby has had all the necessary checks by the medics for them and us to reach this conclusion, but because our surgery has loads of Dr’s, whoever picks up his results ends up with us going thro the whole double check process again, but better safe than sorry. Hope you get sorted soon.

I take Lisinopril and hydrochlothyazide for high blood pressure. I've been on Doctor prescribed potassium pills for a little over a year. Last blood test was almost normal, so expect to be on them until next Sept.
I was originally prescribed the huge horse pills that kept getting stuck in my throat and almost chocking me. (not a pleasant experience) . Finally I called the doctor and told him about my experience. I said I refuse to take any more.. He then prescribed coated pills which are so much better. I have to take 2 per day instead of one, which is ok with me.
No problems with the pills affecting my digestion.

I have low potassium. I've been taking prescribed Sando K for eight years.
It's an effervescent tablet. They come in a tube, look just like Steradent tablets.
I take two a day but have taken four in the past.
Your Doctor will help you. You may have to have regular blood tests.
I imagine that dietary improvements could help with mild cases.

Meant to say they dissolve in water or juice which is just as well because they taste vile.
