Slipped down the stairs!

This morning I managed to slip down the last few stairs. Scraped my elbow and seemed to bounce on every step. I'm well padded but have bruised my derriere and if I'd still got my coccyx I think it would have broken. I asked my OH to take a photo of it (nods to Phoenix) with my phone. He wanted to know if the camera had facial recognition. Not too sure what he was insinuating there ... Does he think my face and my bottom are interchangeable? confused Perhaps I should change my profile picture on Facebook - would anyone notice the difference?

Reminds me of the ‘Rezackly disease’ joke.

Which is?

Oh grandmasue I do feel for you. Stairs are dangerous, aren't they? As you may know I fell down the last few stairs two years ago and what with one thing and another I'm still waiting for my teeth. A gum full of ironmongery waiting for the implants.
Never mind, these things are sent to try us - and they do. Get well soon.

I have just seen this thread. Honestly, if anyone should need cheering up today, now's your chance. Grandmasue's own description of her fall from grace is hilarious enough.

As for her DH. Well, he's a brave one, I'll give him that.

Some of the comments here, whilst filled with sympathy and empathy, are priceless. Thanks to everyone for that. And, I sincerely hope that you lose no more valuable bits of your anatomy, Gs, and that your aches and pains are coming to an end grin, mostly behind you grin and normal service has been resumed.

I did this about 4 months ago. It did take about 2 months before all the soreness disappeared.

Hope you feel better soon, Grandmasue.? Incidentally, how did they remove your belly button? ?

I doubt your face and bottom are interchangeable.

Reminded me of an episode of Foyle's War. RAF pilot cheeking Matron in hospital. She had remarked she would as soon have seen his rear as his face, or some such thing, and he got back with, "You are looking at it, that's where the skin grafts came from!"

I do hope your sore sit-upon is recovering.

@DiscoGran They removed my belly button with a huge incision across my stomach. The surgeon asked me if I wanted a new one making (I have no idea how!). I asked him why and he said he wondered if I might want a piercing! As I was an overweight 57-year-old who only had my ears pierced when I turned 50 I declined the offer. I now just have a scar running from one side to the other!

I am still suffering when sitting down - hoping this eases soon!

Well, at least you were offered a reconstructed navel. Nice of them to do so.

When I had my Ileostomy (30 years ago), complications meant that I had four operations in five days. When I eventually defied the medics and did not die, and finally got moved out if ITU, I discovered that the result was long, long, scar running down my middle from just below my breasts right down between my legs and my anus had also been all sewn up. My two eldest (teenage) daughters who had spent much of the time at the hospital with me during all of this called them my Teddy Bear stitches!!!

About 14 years back one of my daughters was staying with me for a weekend, with their newest baby. (My stairs were straight, but the banister rail only came up two thirds of the stairs.

After we all went to bed, I remembered something I needed to do downstairs, trying to go very quietly - although the light was still on their bedroom - slipped on second stair down, managed to sit backwards, and bumped down the entire flight on my bum. Daughter and SiL rushed down to help me and to tell me off.

Amazingly, except for some bruising and a lot of shock I was okay. However, a few weeks later - ring at my front door and there was someone from Adult services, saying they had been notified that I needed some aids. My daughter, on her return home, had notified them. I was mortified at first, but they came and put in a rail up the other side to the banister and this ran the entire length of the stairs. As time went on, this rail was just about the only think that meant I could continue to use those stairs, giving me something to pull myself up by and something to hang on to when going downstairs.

Hope you recover reasonably quickly.

Hi Franbern My OH did actually put up a small rail at the bottom three stairs which has been invaluable!

Hetty58 Tue 02-Jun-20 13:33:01

GrandmasueUK, ouch - why did that happen? Were you rushing, carrying something, maybe not paying attention?

Is your stair carpet worn (or the soles of your slippers)? - do check. Of course, having minimised further risk, it'll be something else next time!

GrandmasueUK Fri 05-Jun-20 13:01:51

I wasn't wearing any shoes or slippers and the stairs are dog-leg, not straight. I tend to twist my foot when coming down the last little flight and I think I twisted off the step and just slid and bumped down the rest of them. Not rushing or carrying anything, I think I must not have been concentrating. I'm much more cautious now!

Jacq10, if you have osteoporosis maybe you should get Xrayed?
