I'd be interested to know how often other people decorate their homes and/or replace furniture. I find chosing wallpaper, carpets and new furniture a complete nightmare. If it goes together it's more by luck than judgement. Suddenly it's Spring and everywhere looks shabby and l don't know where to start.

We redecorate as required, heavy use areas more frequently. As for changing furniture, it has tended to happen when we've moved house or when the family structure has changed. When our DSs moved out we re vamped their bedrooms; decorating and changing furniture. When DILS and DGCs came along a bigger dining table was needed and more chairs!
A recent downsize move meant getting rid of a fair bit of furniture and buying new sofas and other sitting room furniture.
As for choosing a style, have a look on Pinterest for ideas.

One in a year I do decorate my house, just minor arrangements and replacing old with new. It give refreshing feeling and feels welcoming.

I'd love new furniture but with 2 cats and umpteen GC we see a lot of it's a non starter. However I've utilised some of my parents furniture and I love searching out bits and pieces in 'antiques' [aka junk] shops. Our house does need decorating and I'd love a new kitchen but even thinking about the upheaval puts me into a hot sweat so I've decided to try to declutter instead and watch house programmes and enjoy house magazines.

Our house gets a tart up once a year paintwise- we are all magnolia and white so its easy to do. I would love a new sofa but our is in vgc after 8 years I am just bored with it but this wont wash with Dh - it would have to be falling apart for him to consent to a change. I change curtains/blinds every 4- 5 years so mine are due but again nothing wrong with the ones I have so I must turn my attention elsewhere. Why not treat yourself to a few magazines for ideas I d find them livelier than Pinterest but each to his own..

All our furniture is either inherited, from auctions or junk shops so we rarely replace any furniture, although we did buy a new settee about 20 years ago. I just redecorate when the paint starts in a room looks sad, which could be anything from 5 to 50 years.
