Can anyone recommend a vacuum cleaner?

I have a GTECH which I bought because I thought it was light and easy to use and did not use bags. However it does not do corners, does not pick up well, keeps flashing red even when battery charged and is quite heavy to get upstairs. Also it's very noisy. I am over 70 and want something I can plug in, not too heavy so I can get it up steep stairs, preferably without having to buy bags, that has attachments that can do corners. I've looked at Which magazine recommendations and pictures on Amazon. Would be grateful for any comments.

Have a look at a Sebo. They are upright, have various attachments for all needs and are not particularly heavy. I am 71 and have had mine for about six years. Absolutely luv it

I have a Dyson stick vacuum cleaner. It was one of the first ones Dyson brought out. I've had it for several years now and it's still going strong.
Very light and easy to carry and take to pieces. It doesn't have a very big dust chamber, and needs emptying regularly, but it is fine for my needs.

I have a Dyson too and love it. I have mobility problems on stairs but can use the Dyson attachments quite happily

I will have a look at Which for their recommendations but I have the cordless Dyson too. The battery needs to be recharged after 20 - 30 minutes and then it takes 3 hours to recharge. The filter has to be washed often (I have bought a spare) but it picks up and is light. We live on 3 floors so I wonder how I ever managed before.

My friend has a robot which she loves and DD has a suggests the Shark which she recommends.

Flaxwoven. Have you been cleaning the filters?
I mean removing them completely.
The red light will often come on, even if you have 'banged' the filters to loosen some of the dust.
Take off the plastic plate that holds the two grey filters inside, with a coin.
Remove the filters and turn them over.
Quite often dust has accumulated around the edges.
Wash and dry them and replace.
This should sort your problem.

I have a Dyson for upstairs, find its not good enough for all the dog hairs downstairs.
I've given up on expensive vacuum cleaners, just buy a medium range one now. My daughter had a cleaning business and used Henrys all the time. ( no apostrophe needed )

Sharks (not sure if they are available in the UK) or Dyson.

Shark, my bad

I had a GTec K9 and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. It began to not do the corners or pick up even though I was regularly sorting the filters. I scrapped it and got a Shark Lift Away about 18 months age. So light, great suction and really versatile. Never looked back! Even beats the many smelly Henry’s I had. ?

I have a trusty corded Miele cylinder which has lasted about 20 years, but am finding it a bit heavy to lug around now. For upstairs I have had a Bosch cordless for 3 years, not hugely pricey, is light, picks up well and runs for ages but is now not charging properly. I think the battery may be at the end of its useful life after reading that all rechargeable batteries apparently have a limited life. I will get another Bosch when this dies. I fancied trying another brand and asked a few people who have had cordless but most didn't recommend some well known brands they've tried. Perhaps they all have limited life span?

I have had a tub Vax for over 21 years and it`s fabulous.

I have a Shark---and you really would be hard-pushed to wonder where the muck and dust came from when using it blush
