Online shopping - collect at store

I am quite taken with shop online and collect from store.
I have tried it with M and S, Debenhams and Tesco. Worked like a dream on all 3 occasions. They confirm by email or text that your order has arrived.
Instead of going to town, searching the shelves, discovering that the specific slippers that MIL wants are not in stock, ordering and going back again, I can specify what I want e.g. grey, size 8 and they will be there the following day.
You do not have to pay postage and you do not have to wait in for courier.
Best if parking is free or you are going near store anyway.
I also noticed that if you are ordering more than £50 of clothes it is FREE delivery to Australia, NZ, SA, US. Handy if the GKDS etc are running out of underwear etc Certainly in Australia and NZ they do not seem to have a shop that sells cheap clothes of reasonable quality.
Given the cost of postage this is a bargain!

Yes, Jess I'm a huge fan also. If I order from John Lewis my OH can collect as he works in town. Boots will deliver to my nearest store free of charge. I try not to pay postage if at all possible.

I wish I could do it the other way round - shop in supermarket, they deliver. Then you would get exactly what you wanted, even the things tou see as you go up and down the aisles but did not remember you needed. No-one seems to do that.

I can order with Tesco and collect from my local small store which is a a couple of miles away so dont even need to go to large store which is a 20 min drive away, I have used this delivery many times and have never been disappointed. I ordered a birthday present for DGS last night and can collect from 4pm tomorrow.

Our larger coop stores do that in Newcastle but dont seem to advertise it, my Aunt goes to store on her scooter and they then deliver what she has chosen elegran.

Can't see a lot of point in it tbh. You may as well go to the shop and just buy it, I would have thought. I like having things delivered to the door, and M and S only charge £3.

You can wait ages in the instore Order-collection queue in Marks and Sparks.

Ana Sun 13-Jan-13 11:18:32

Iceland will delivery your shopping free if you spend £25 or more instore.

Elegran Sun 13-Jan-13 14:10:47

No point me doing instore collection of any sort as I don't drive. If I could just shove it in the boot then I would rather shop personally and choose things myself.

As it is I take a shopping trolley on wheels if I intend to shop. Who was it said that was something she loathed as a symbol of old age? Must be someone with a car. I don't exactly regard it as a fashion accessory, but it is definitely an improvement on carrying a heavy bag M & S canvas bag in each hand, or three plastic bags in each hand, which is what happens if I am not prepared.

After my physiotherapy on Thursday, instead of getting off the bus at the usual stop and walking up the hill home, on impulse I stayed on until it reached Tesco to buy "a few things". More than a few items jumped into my basket, so I had to carry them to the bus-stop, ride a few stops, and then walk up the hill home.

Three days later I am still suffering for it.

Some places also have a booth thing where you can collect Amazon purchases - there is one in a Coop i go to occasionally.

Else gran - our local Iceland lets you shop in store and then leave the shopping with them and they deliver it

glassortwo Sun 13-Jan-13 22:02:15

elegran its easy to keep loading into your basket forgetting the weight for carrying.
My 29yr old DD has a beautiful shopping trolley she say's its the thing to be seen with smile she uses it when she goes to the market for fruit and veg etc, she cant carry any weight as she has had problems with her coccyx since having her first baby.

There are some bright and cheerful shopping trolleys in my local hardware shop, I'm hoping by the time I may need one, they'll have become trendy!
hmm

glassortwo Sun 13-Jan-13 22:17:34

They are trendy now ella with the younger ones grin what colour do you fancy?

Ana Sun 13-Jan-13 22:30:19

Anything as long as it's not tartan! (sorry Scots Gransnetters, but really, that's been the only choice for years....)

annodomini Sun 13-Jan-13 22:57:59

I have a rather pretty trolley with flowery motifs in bright colours - and decent-sized wheels. Got it in Lakeland, of course.

gillybob Sun 13-Jan-13 23:20:27

Oh that's funny my daughter and her friend were raving about these "new" shopping trolleys the other day and I thought they were joking!

harrigran Sun 13-Jan-13 23:46:34

DD has a bright shopping trolley and uses it for getting groceries and other heavy things home. She does not have her car in Brussels because she lives within walking distance of work. I think they are a very good idea.

Love the way threads drift from one topic to another.
Maybe if fewer families can afford a second car they are making a comeback with the younger set.
Shopping trolley recommendations anyone smile

Collect at the store is the only kind of online food shopping round here, trouble is the collection point is 55km away!
I am a bit fed up with M and S. We used to be able to buy from UK and get it delivered for £5. Now you have to order from the French online store, pay in euros (all our income is sterling and we get a set amount brought across in euros each month for living expenses), and still pay for delivery. There are lots of things that are not available in the French online store, even though it all seems to come by carrier from Sheffield. I gather people have complained but M and S say it gives us better service. Not sure how?

Shopping trolleys are the in thing at Adelaide Central Market. My elderly mother would not shop with one though as she thought it made her look like an old lady. smile

I'm not reporting it. I am not convinced that HQ don't have someone sitting reading every single post that comes up. wink

whenim64 Thu 07-Feb-13 11:14:32

They won't notice Jingle - too busy eating cake at this time of day! grin

Ana Thu 07-Feb-13 11:15:51

Actually I've ordered stuff from the online store mentioned - pretty good customer service as well!

Thanks to those who reported the spammy post.

Please do report jingle, we won't necessarily see it otherwise!
