Post Menopause Bleeding

Hospital rang me today, consultant now wants me go for the Hysteroscopy, I was thinking it was because biopsy was inconclusive but apparently they found a polyp during the biopsy which was, thankfully, benign and the consultant just wants to make sure there are no more hiding away.

Very relieved I must say, hysteroscopy next Tuesday, not something to look forward to but I will grin and bear it, at least I sort of know what to expect now

Had my procedure this morning, all hyped up for a hysteroscopy and the doctor said it was just a biopsy..no idea why but I’m not complaining, it was all over and done with quite quickly and he and the nurses were lovely and helped put me at ease, doctor said I would get results from my consultant (not him, I was fitted in as a late cancellation) in a couple of weeks, I guess I may still need a hysteroscopy depending on the results of the biopsy but fingers crossed it won’t be necessary.

MrsA1964. I had this procedure twice (about 20 years ago!) as I mentioned in an earlier posting. It wasn't too bad at all, and the main thing was they sorted me out. Hope all goes well for you .

I have my hysteroscopy tomorrow, 6 weeks after seeing my GP, not really an acceptable timescale and if I hadn’t kicked up a bit of a fuss and made a nuisance of myself I suspect I would still be waiting. Not looking forward to it and am fully expecting the results not to be good when I eventually get them.

My husband swapped his ultrasound appointment with me, so I went today...she found nothing untoward apart from a slight thickening of the womb lining, at 6mm instead of the recommended normal of 4-5mm...this has put my mind somewhat at rest but understand I will probably still need a biopsy once I’ve seen the consultant at the hospital (from reading different things) as that seems to be the norm...

My scan is on 27th March but all this waiting is just terrifying me..I’m so convinced I have some form of cancer..I’m overweight and have PCOS both of those things mean I’m at much higher risk... I’m trying to not think about things but failing dismally...I’m in a right old state...

Ditto same thing happened to me. 1 yr ago a polyp removed. Now happened again?

It has happened to me 3 times several years apart. Each time they found polyps which were removed under general anaesthetic. Last time it happened I was seen by the gynaecologist within a week of seeing the GP.

If you are apprehensive (and which of us isn't), try to practice relaxation and breathing exercises, there's lots of info on the net.

Consciously relax your pelvic muscles, and legs. If you've had children, do you recall that breathing? Try that?

I rang my doctors today just to make sure the referells had been sent and they have, i then realised that the nice hospital where I had my knees done (private but do NHS work) do gynalogical appointments so rang back to ask if I could be referred there, she went off to check and came back to say I had been referred there and appointment is 8th April, so outside the 2 week guidelines but not too long to wait, she said scan should be through next week..

Still worrying but at least I know things are moving forward

My GP said I should hear about ultrasound and hospital appointment within 2 weeks and get back to them if I don’t..we are due to go away in 9 weeks and I’d like to have some idea of what the problem is before then in case we have to cancel.

Just had similar, on a Friday, telephone consultation with GP Monday - immediate 2 week referral (which I felt was a bit OTT). Seen week later, hysteroscopy and cervical screen (coincidentally called for that in midst of this). Get checked, as per NHS guidelines - your GP may need reminding of them!

The two week referral is precautionary so try not to worry. I was shocked when I was referred to Addenbrooks breast department when I went to doctors with breast pain. I discovered it was standard procedure for any breast problems. It is the same for lower region problems. They found nothing wrong after examination and mammogram and it cleared up with evening primrose oil. How wonderful that they act so quickly. NHS is amazing. Wishing you well x

I had the same thing, sometimes a little bleeding but also itching and pain. I have been diagnosed, after 2 years of suffering, with Vaginal Atrophy and have a hormone cream which has sorted everything out.

Same symptoms as yours some years ago and that was polyps as others have said. good luck.

At the hospital I found the scan completely painless. The gynaecologist was very skilled at undertaking a smear. Fortunately everything was fine.

I had the same and unable to find my cervix, had two nurses and GP Looking for it. Then to clinic at hospital who could not find it. Sent me for a scan. Turned out to be a growth on an ovary which had got very large, Thought it could be ovarian cancer but it was benign and removed by keyhole, all 12lb of it! Try not to worry, though I know how hard that can be. It is more likely to be something benign than not. Good luck.

I had the same problem 6 months ago, really worried and concerned as I had a Hysterectomy 8 years but still have my Ovaries.
Had an Ultra Scan and thankfully all.
ok
Still do not know what it was, but no further problems.

I had similar. Had ultra sound and all ok. Never did find out what it was but it cleared up. I feel for you as the waiting is the worse bit. Big hug xx

The reason I don’t think it’s thrush is that I have no other symptoms of that like itching etc, but it could be i guess.
if it hasn’t been thrush last time would the spotting have continued after the thrush treatment?

My Mum had exactly the same thing, 3 weeks ago. Pinkish spotting GP referral to gynae. It should be under 2 weeks wait . It was a small polyp that was infected which caused the spotting. Please try not to worry as it sounds very similar. They gave her an ultrasound found she also has dropped womb which caused back ache and dragging feeling. Given her the choice of hysterectomy or ring pessary to support womb. Yet to decide. Let us know how it goes.

It does sound as though it could be persistent thrush as it cleared up last time after treatment. Anything more worrying wouldn't have responded to treatment. Have you changed your soap? underwear to less cotton content? that sort of thing. It's good that you are being thoroughly checked out now.

There are so many things it could be if not but please try not to worry yourself that it's cancer. Fibroids can cause bleeding. Endometriosis. Polyps. All sorts.

This may have been on your mind which is why you felt so very uncomfortable during your exam. Although she may also have been heavy handed and not put you at ease before examining you.

I so wish you well with your checks and please try to remember it could be something straightforward but you are doing the right thing by making sure.

Yes after many years I suddenly had bleeding, went to the Dr, a man, who said he would refer me to gynaecological. Decided I wasn't happy so I went back saw a female dr who got me a two week scan by a specialist (in case it was cancer). Nothing was found given the all clear. It was found that I was using a moisture gel that was inserted (can't remember name) that contained a hormone was told to stop using it and it all stopped and never came back. Just go to any appointments made and try not to over worry.

I had bleeding. I was referred to a gynaecological oncologist. Had more exams and a scan and was referred for a hysterescopy under a general anaesthetic and they also did a d&c. Nothing untoward was found and the d&c cured the problem.
