First Jews and now this. Labour has definitely become the nasty party, embracing hard left racist thugs.

What is going on when Corbyn's supporters abuse the new home secretary because of the colour of his skin?

Javid asked Corbyn to denounce them, but the leader of the Labour party kept his seat.

"Sajid Javid demanded Jeremy Corbyn denounce his supporters for branding him a 'coconut' and 'Uncle Tom' since his appointment as Home Secretary,"

"Since being made Home Secretary on Monday, Mr Javid has been subject to a torrent of racist abuse - which appears to come from left-wingers who profess support for Mr Corbyn."

'I was talking about members of the hard left that have created a hostile environment in their own party and people that welcome my appointment by calling me a 'coconut' and an 'Uncle Tom'.

'If that's something (Mr Corbyn) thinks is wrong, why doesn't he come to the dispatch box right now and denounce them?' "

Corbyn didn't. No surprises there.

It is appalling, Day6, but no-one will believe it because it was in the DM!

OldMeg Thu 03-May-18 07:47:56

Don’t believe everything you read in the Daily Mail. What side of the political fence do you think they are on and likewise Day6

There is a hidden agenda here of course and as is so often said of newspapers ‘ why let the truth get in the way of a good story !’

However I believe the word ‘gullible’ has just been removed from the dictionary, so that might explain it.

Perhaps they didn’t like Savid Javid referring to them as neo-fascists

Day6 which appears to come from left-wingers who profess support for Mr Corbyn

The operative word here is 'appears'. Plus the obvious corollary that just because someone professes support for Corbyn does not mean Corbyn even knows who they are.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 08:55:56

It happened in the house during a debate . Corbyn should have condemned these racist attacks and for any supporter of the Labour Party to defend him for not doing so shocks me . Labour had the first male and female black MP's , now it seems we must defend Corbyn for not condemning racist abuse.

Smileless2012 Thu 03-May-18 08:56:35

Corbyn may not know who they are yygdrasil but if they are racially abusing someone in his name and he doesn't agree with their racial slurs, he should speak out against it.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 09:11:18

Is neo facist a racist slur ?

MawBroon Thu 03-May-18 09:12:23

Either way and whatever the truth of the matter, our society is becoming a very nasty place, as reflected in parliament, in the Press and the media in general.
Two (or more) wrongs do not make a right.
This is destructive and divisive and sadly not doing anybody any good.

Well, I was expecting something similar to occur to detract from the Windrush scandal and all the other mess-ups that are happening.

I think these sorts of accusations are best ignored - they are becoming so predictable now. Certainly someone like Corbyn, who has actively campaigned about racism all his life and who protested against apartheid when Mrs Thatcher was referring to Nelson Mandela as "a terrorist", would never condone racism. However, if such comments have been made, who's to say that these people are real Corbyn supporters? They would hardly be doing Corbyn any favours in making comments such as have been reported. They are an absolute gift to Conservative Party Central Office which has wasted no time in calling out its troops to express their outrage and pin the blame on Corbyn.

Grannyparkrun Thu 03-May-18 09:21:33

Just playing devil's advocate here, as HATE any kind of racial/gender stereotype, but doesn't coconut used in this way mean black on the outside but white on the inside, & therefore 'guilty' of bailing out on the black community? I wish we could all just be identified as human beings though.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 09:24:15

what concerns me is Corbyn did not say anything and his supporters here are defending this

Grandad1943 Thu 03-May-18 09:38:46

In the light of the windrush scandal I am surprised that any Tory supporter would wish to raise racism as a topic. Name calling in race is disgusting enough but what has happened to the Windrush generation is far more than name calling as it is "direct organized concerted racial action" that has totaly wrecked peoples lives.

The very worst of the above has occurred since 2016 when the Conservatives realised that those people were "soft targets" for their immigration quotas

Totaly disgusting.

nigglynellie Thu 03-May-18 09:42:41

I would have thought that as this was brought up in a parliamentary debate, not just a report by the DM Mr Corbyn would have leapt to his feet to roundly denounce this racist offensive language in no uncertain terms and make it quite clear that this was totally unacceptable wherever it was coming from! It seems so odd that the only time JC speaks is when he reads from a pre-prepared speech. When caught on the hop, he always remains silently sitting, for fear of saying the wrong thing?!!!

kittylester Thu 03-May-18 09:48:25

Good post, nellie!

I don't think it is Annie.

sunseeker Thu 03-May-18 09:50:05

It may have been reported in the DM but the abuse was on Twitter and Facebook (I believe) and directed at Sajid Javid. In the past when such abuse has been directed at Diane Abbott everyone has been denouncing it (quite rightly) but because Mr. Javid is a Tory it seems to be OK.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 09:55:11

More defence for racist abuse grandad1943, this is what Corbyn supporters have done to the Labour Party,

Corbyn not speaking out condemning racist abuse against a Tory MP is ok because he spoke out against racism in the eighties.

Corbyn not speaking out condemning racist abuse against a Tory MP is ok because some have made accusations of neo facism

Oldwoman70 Thu 03-May-18 09:56:38

""However, if such comments have been made, who's to say that these people are real Corbyn supporters?"

It's all a conspiracy!!!

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 10:00:30

Well said niggly

kitty, not you, like me you have condemned it not defended it.

There is no defence for failing to condemn racist abuse

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 10:02:25

Oldwoman, it has been said and wasn't condemned and you too are defending the silence

Smileless2012 Thu 03-May-18 10:12:47

They may not be Corbyn supporters Oldwoman but if he doesn't distance himself from their racist comments it can be viewed that he's in agreement with them.

When Thatcher referred to Nelson Mandela as a terrorist Eleothan she wasn't condoning racism, supporting apartheid or making a comment based on the colour of his skin.

At that time his party was involved in acts of terrorism. Their cause may have been just but some of the methods used were not.

nigglynellie Thu 03-May-18 10:34:38

Difference is Grandad, that the disgraceful Windrush debacle has been recognised, apologised for profusely, head(s) have rolled, hands put up, compensation promised. The racist abuse to San is Javid is obviously not only condoned by the the Labour leadership but actively encouraged because he's a Tory! Were it the other way round the outrage would be apoplectic.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 10:38:14

What angers me is his wriggling, he posted on an anti Semitic site but didn't read the posts. He awards Lady Shami with a seat in the Lords for finding the Labour Party was not anti Semitic then apologise for anti semitism in the Party. He warmly greeted a man who verbally attacked a Labour MP ,a Jew, no matter she fled from the room distressed.

We cannot defend this , all racist abuse is wrong

SpanielNanny Thu 03-May-18 10:50:10

Not a JC supporter in anyway, shape or form. I fully agree with nellie, don’t think I’ve ever seen him speak without having notes to prompt him, which is probably what is stopping him here, can’t have him having to think on the spot.

I’m also reluctant to believe anything I read in the DM, and the same for the mirror. Both opposite ends of the political spectrum, but both so blatantly full of one sided rubbish. However whether the story is to be believed or not, I too expect ALL politicians to be speaking against this abhorrent behaviour.

Regarding the abuse he (or other political figures) are receiving on Twitter, I question how many of those ‘dishing it out’ are genuine political supporters, and not just racist idiots. However these facts are absolutely irrelevant, and just as he did when Dianne Abbot was victim to it, JC should be speaking out.

Anniebach Thu 03-May-18 10:56:43

It is true , he did not speak out .
