Proof (if you still need it) that this government is run by a set of incompetents who have totally lost the plot

No Brexit deal awarded to ferry company who owns no ships and has never run a ferry service

Nonnie Mon 07-Jan-19 15:52:44

Maizie I'm not an expert, just a R4 listener but I think it might be the port itself. I vaguely remember something about a decision being made to open up the port for more trade. I expect someone else has more knowledge than me,

Add it to the billions we have spent on this brexit nonsense in the last three years.

Nonnie Mon 07-Jan-19 16:46:58

varian and will continue to spend for years to come whatever the final outcome. Either the whole country will be a lot poorer and out on a limb when it comes to trade or we will be left with the bill for all the extra civil servants who have been taken on and the extra cost of goods which have been stockpiled. And of course the cost of paying the two ferry companies which will profit whether or not they have to move any goods.

Thanet District Council own and manage the Port of Ramsgate. I want to know why they haven’t had meetings about the Seabourne deal.

To be fair, the Seaborne logo is really very stylish

Well Ramsgate itself could do with an injection of money. It is a pretty sad place. Let's hope if all this comes to fruition, with any positivity, it will benefit local residents by offering local employment opportunities. #notholdingmybreath

Now (Tuesday) we hear that this company has issued “inaccurate investor briefings” ...
Interesting article in the FT: “Ferry company will not be ready for Brexit, says government”

That clarifies why Ramsgate is never again utilized. I pondered domesticated animals traffic and sheep yet couldn't recollect what.

The government has just cancelled the contract with the no ships company.
Why is Chris Grayling still Secretary of State? He’s got to be the most incompetent of the lot.

NotSpaghetti Sat 09-Feb-19 08:48:32

As several people have said on this, “you couldn’t make it up!”

MaizieD Sat 09-Feb-19 12:29:35

But our government can! They're doing it all the time. Making it up.

Nonnie Sat 09-Feb-19 12:41:23

Will we hear which civil servant lost their job for not doing the due diligence?

I heard the other day that the government were 'making arrangements' for some aspects of a no deal Brexit. Really? At this stage of the game? No, you really couldn't make it up.

As several people have pointed out, you really couldn't make this up. Sheesh! Most of us could see this was a bad move and it is astonishing that Chris Grayling is still in post.

Who still trusts this government to lead us out of their own mess? And does anybody think Labour would do any better?

Fit a sotter we're in, as we say in Aberdeenshire.
