I do find I have to separate Ms Mantel from her books. I’m really looking forward to reading the last tome but I find myself shouting at the radio when she’s on. I’m sure she’s a very nice lady but....

Was there any thought there at all, joined up or otherwise?

TBH I'm fed up with supporters of M playing the racist card. It's quite clear to me that the criticism she's receiving is due to her arrogance and the way she has dis respected the Queen. I say that as someone who is not a royalist.

A horrible comment about Kate; presumably even if she thought it about M she wouldn't say so in case she was accused of "abominable racism" or demonstrating an "element of racism".

I doubt if the Duchess of Cambridge will lose sleep over Hilary’s daft comment.

I listened to her Reith lectures in 2017 (?).
Some parts were extremely weird, as are some of her other pronouncements, and indeed, some of her books.

Accusing people of being racist when their comments have nothing to do with race, but are based on how someone has behaved are unpleasant.

It must be very distressing for anyone who is being abused and/or victimised purely because of their race.

SirChenjin she is an author, she wrote Wolf Hall which is about Thomas Cromwell, and this is the third book in the trilogy which she is flogging.

Oh I've read the first two and didn't make the connection. Don't see why that qualifies her to make her racism accusations though.

No Namsnanny I genuinely don’t know! I was being very lazy by not googling but was sitting in the car waiting for my son who was just about to finish his rugby training and didn’t have time.

Seems Hilary Mantel can criticise others for things they supposedly said but its ok for her to be extremely rude about the Duchess of Cambridge. Double standards ?

I watched the Mantel interview and, to be honest, I thought that she just waffled on and on and on..... She made the statement about racism being a factor but she failed to give any reasons or logic as to how she'd come to her conclusion. I just dismissed her as being an author trying to flog her next book.
