Who am I

I was sent this today by a good friend.

Doe this resonate?

Thoughts please.

Who Am I?

I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white,
which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards,
makes me a fascist.

I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.

I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class
and an ally of big business.

I was christened by my parents, which now labels me as an infidel.

I am retired, which makes me useless.

I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream
media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.

I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police
and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.

I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to
each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.

I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without
student loan debts and little or no debt, which makes me some kind of
an odd underachiever.

I believe in the defence and protection of my country and I honour
those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right
wing-militant.

Please help me come to terms with the new me... because I'm just not
sure who the hell I am anymore!

Funny ...it’s all just taken place over the last 10 to 15 years!

As if all this wasn’t enough to deal with ... now I’m not even sure
which lavatory to go into!

It's not very kind, is it.

I know a Sharon and Tracy too!

growstuff Thu 09-Jul-20 23:59:51

No, it's not. I don't really know where that came from either.

Some of the "Karen" videos are so awful, I thought they were spoofs when I first saw them. It's unbelievable that they're real people.

Callistemon Fri 10-Jul-20 00:02:01

I don't think I'll look.
Once seen, can't be unseen.

Now, Missfoodlove....I hope you have read through the responses to your post and learned from them.
You need to find yourself a site where the members are open-minded, free-thinking and not afraid to face up to reality. There are such sites on the internet if you look. Sadly, this is not one of them.

Galaxy Fri 10-Jul-20 08:28:10

And you must learn from ladymuck that I am unable to think for myself.

Alexa Fri 10-Jul-20 08:30:45

MissFoodLove, there is no more courageous and moral stance than that of the existentialist who takes persona;l responsibility for who they decide to be, and will not accept any others' definitions of who they are.

Lucca Fri 10-Jul-20 08:31:02

?? This thread has opinions expressing a liking for the original post and a dislike of it. Surely that is open minded ?

Lucca Fri 10-Jul-20 08:32:46

My post was in response to ladymuck’s post.

Elderflower2 Fri 10-Jul-20 08:37:05

@Missfoodlove from what I've seen, each generation has its own thinking and the former generations just live alongside it. I recognise your friend's post to be sardonic humour.

I don't like student humour, but it exists and is a matter of choice.

Different strokes...

lemongrove Fri 10-Jul-20 08:44:01

Good post Elderflower

I think that the OP (post, not poster) originates in the US by the sound of it.

Juliet27 Fri 10-Jul-20 08:57:03

as sf101 said Surely that's the point you can't say anything anymore as you are bound to offend someone!!

Cabbie21 Fri 10-Jul-20 09:02:49

I wonder why Missfoodlove’s friend sent her that piece?
She asked for comments and has received a variety of views about the piece, but if somebody sent me that piece I would wonder what they were trying to tell me.

I think it would tell me a lot about the person who forwarded it hmm

I don't think this is to be taken too seriously

Everything changes and nothing remains still

Plato I think.

Ladymuck, I’ll try again. Surely the fact that some approved the post and some didn’t find it funny is proof that this site is open minded and free thinking ?

Parler's good (so I've heard).

I think it more meant to be how others sometimes see us,and i agree that you have to be careful what you say these days,as things are often taken the wrong way and often offend where no offence is meant

Callistemon Fri 10-Jul-20 10:11:49

I do sometimes wonder "Who am I?"
"What am I doing?"
"Is there life out there in the universe?"

growstuff Fri 10-Jul-20 10:15:20

You have the right to say almost anything you want. It depends whether you want to respect other people. If you don't, you shouldn't be surprised if they stop listening or do their best to ignore you.

MamaCaz Fri 10-Jul-20 10:37:55

I have to laugh when people who agree with the OP then claim that 'you are not allowed to say anything any more'.

But people do say these things, don't they, and very frequently, and for the most part there are no negative repercussions whatsoever beyond other people exercising exactly the same freedom of speech by disagreeing with them!

moggie57 Fri 10-Jul-20 10:47:37

Some of us including me dont like any kind of change. I am not self pitying.its the way i am.

paddyanne Fri 10-Jul-20 11:20:08

Sadly I hear these things in real life and its from people who live in the past .They never moved with the times because everything from the 40's or 50's or 60;s was "the good old days" We have a friend who only listens to music from the 60's and when he's in our house and the music is usually much more modern he complains everything is rubbish now .
I dont mind the odd track from my youth but theres thousands of brilliant young and not so young singers /sonwriters /bands around and always has been .My friend also wallows in the poverty he grew up in ,the " young folk dont know what poor is" brigade .I know the OP was meant to be funny but for a lot of people its how they think ...everything should stay the same ...all thats new is bad ,you need to move with the times otherwise you get left behind

mcem Fri 10-Jul-20 11:47:24

A friend used to forward similar stuff (sent by her friends in a retirement village in Florida)!
I simply asked her to stop!

FarNorth Fri 10-Jul-20 12:58:53

blondenana it can be worth trying to work out how others see us and whether they might be right.
That's how progress is made.

Galaxy Fri 10-Jul-20 13:02:19

I think people find that incredibly difficult farnorth, I dont mean people on GN but rather generally, it's quite a difficult thing to do.
