What is it with Labour city mayors?

Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool (Old Swan area) for the last 10 years was arrested yesterday for alleged criminal activity.

Our very own ‘chancer’ Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester overplayed his hand against the Goverment recently and came off badly. He’s so unpopular round here.

And Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, who is only hanging on by his fingernails owing to the delayed election process there is an out of touch lefty who espouses any ‘good cause’ whilst admitting he is ‘not providing proper leadership’.

They are all pretty useless.
Irrelevant too I’d say.

growstuff you should try watching TV it can be educational and relaxing depending on your viewing choice.

As for digging at Urmstongran all English Channels TV and radio are available in Spain as are all newspapers.

No need to be so spiteful in your comments your posts are normally above that sort of thing?

What a load of shysters !!

Urmstongran Sat 05-Dec-20 12:17:20

Well this plonker turned down £60 mil from the government to help out during T3 restrictions. He demanded £100 mil saying £60 mil wasn’t enough.

The Manchester Evening News reported that instead Gtr. Manchester had received £20 mil. He called it ‘a point of principle’. Nice one Burnham!

Does my council tax fund his incompetence? I’m away to check ...

BTW my husband is a Manc born & bred and can’t stand him. I’ve lived in Manchester since the age of 2 years so pretty much one I suppose!

Wouldthat be the same Carillion awarded huge amounts of government contracts under David Cameron who subsequently went bust? EllanVannin?
Chair one Philip Green big Tory supporter head of a lot of companies who have just gone bust? Sitting onhis yatch in the Med somewhere?

Carillion poured thousands into the coffers of Anderson's mayorship, yet he had the gall to lambaste them because the work wasn't getting finished. All the spouting these " lord mayors " do is for show to the people----nothing else. It makes them feel good to think they have everyone on side.

The sooner people wake up to the fact that Labour are a poisonous combination, the better. Hasn't anyone ever noticed that where you have a Labour minister, the areas that they hold are ALL run-down with poverty-stricken families ? These ministers don't care so long as they're alright-----and they are !!

Has anyone ever seen any of them roll up their sleeves ?
Speak to anyone who appears to be down and out in appearance and I can bet they vote Labour ! There's no need to confront Conservatives in general because they know what's what as their ways of managing are a totally different ball game.

Labour continue to hoodwink their constituents and it's criminal.
I hope this debacle with Anderson opens up a can of worms.

I live in Manchester and Andy Burnam is very popular here.

Your views growstuff are secondhand also through your daughter and her friends or am I missing something here. No different from Urmstongran views obtained from her family and friends.

Touchè!

I hope you've told them in no uncertain terms that we don't need these mayors and to get rid of them.

They are yet another layer of bureaucracy which we do not need and are forced to pay for.
Likewise the Police and Crime Commissioners.

Callistemon Sat 05-Dec-20 12:33:08

"^lord mayors^"

I presume you're using the term ironically, EllanVannin as these are politicians and there are Lord Mayors in addition to them.

You forgot to mention Peter Salsbury Urmston. I am convinced he is part of the reason why Leicester has been in lockdown since the beginning. He just refused to cooperate with the government and made himself extremely unpopular. He seems to have reigned it in a little recently and hence we hopefully are in a better position.

I am with you about Andy Burnham - I think his ambition to become PM is overtaking everything else.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 05-Dec-20 12:36:20

Andy Burnham as PM nooooooo.......

Callistemon Sat 05-Dec-20 12:39:07

I would have voted for him as leader of the LP - despite misgivings.

Comments directed to Urmstongran are unfounded and say more about the posters than their intended victim

Mine wasn't a comment it was a genuine query.

And no way can you say the OP is a victim - if you post a thread directed at a particular party you can surely expect robust responses.

I'm awaiting opinion poll evidence that Khan is hanging on by his fingernails, because that's quite a claim - or maybe it wasn't polling just someone's opinion?

EllanVannin Sat 05-Dec-20 12:48:29

Indeed Callistemon.

EllanVannin Sat 05-Dec-20 12:50:45

Trisher it's not surprising that the company went bust " under Cameron ", it could well have been anyone else at the time since it had poured thousands into the Labour council----and for what ??

EllanVannin Sat 05-Dec-20 12:53:30

Carillion was a black-listed company. It wasn't Cameron who brought them in was it ?

Riverwalk Sat 05-Dec-20 12:55:29

Blacklisted by whom, or what?

Urmstongran Sat 05-Dec-20 12:55:58

Seems some of our £1,580 p.a. Council tax does go towards the Metro Mayor’s office.

Wiki:
The service is funded partly by grants from central Government and partly by council tax paid by the residents of Greater Manchester.

Of course you can and should Riverwalk but the right to express a view should not be denied by implications that any poster copies and pastes most of her opinions
Play the ball, not the player?

Urmstongran Sat 05-Dec-20 13:01:04

Greater Manchester:

It encompasses one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United Kingdom and comprises ten metropolitan boroughs: Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan, and the cities of Manchester and Salford.

growstuff
You have a problem with someone voicing opinions because they have been out of the country for 9? months.
Do you have a problem with any posters who are resident in another European country constantly telling us where we are going wrong/ what rubbish our politicians are/ how bad our education system is etc etc. Constantly using the words our, we when they don't even live here.

Callistemon Sat 05-Dec-20 13:17:42

Petra ??

Urmstongran Sat 05-Dec-20 13:22:10

Besides which ...

“Accordingly, the view can be taken that when calculating the 183 days required under the ‘duration of stay’ criterion established by the law on personal income tax, account should not be taken of days which a person was forced to spend in a country as a result of the lockdowns imposed to combat the COVID-19 crisis.”

Perhaps we can finally put this to bed now?
We have never in 16y ever stayed longer than 6 weeks at a time and most certainly less than 183 days per year.
Thank you.
