Trump is shocked his supporters are low life/low class

He's deluded about how he is perceived, clearly!

As a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday, Donald Trump was reportedly unconcerned about the destruction or insurrection taking place but instead how the violent extremists appeared “low-class”.

The president’s ardent loyalists breached security measures and clashed with police, injuring at least 14 people and killing one officer, in the wake of Mr Trump’s fiery speech filled with falsities about the 2020 election.

Mr Trump had called on the audience, which had gathered in DC from across America, to march to the Capitol building as Congress convened to certify the results of his electoral defeat to President-elect Joe Biden.

What followed was a violent and historic scene: QAnon conspiracy theorists dressed in furs, domestic terrorists waving confederate flags, and hundreds of men and women in Trump campaign gear ransacking lawmakers’ offices. Some took the Senate dais and echoed the president’s false claims of voter fraud.

Mr Trump was apparently turned off by the chaotic scene, although not due to the assault on the US government but according to New York Magazine, because his supporters looked “low-class”.

“He doesn’t like low class things,” an anonymous White House source told the magazine.

I think Melania is a woman who knew exactly what she was doing when she married Donad Trump and has followed the course she set herself to the letter

She had no desire to be First Lady, with all that involved, so she wasn't. She kept right out of the Trump family political project - and will continue to do so. She will only leave her marriage if she has to jump before she is pushed.

PippaZ It was a question of being believed not to read the bible rather than whether we were allowed to or not.

Scientific American has an interesting article on Trump and his followers-

"The ‘Shared Psychosis’ of Donald Trump and His Loyalists
Forensic psychiatrist Bandy X. Lee explains the outgoing president’s pathological appeal and how to wean people from it"

If Melania is so worried about threats she could get The Donald to build a wall around Mar a Largo - he’s fond of walls!!!!!?

I would expect Melania’s security screen is substantial and very well armed. Mar a Largo similarly, will be well protected, as will Biden and other Democrats, there are a lot of angry rednecks willing to make a name for themselves.

It’s no joking matter at all they are dangerous

varian Wed 13-Jan-21 17:29:26

It is not the Democrats who are dangerous.

Casdon Wed 13-Jan-21 17:30:31

M0nica your comment about Melania’s motivation intrigues me, what do you think was in her mind when you said she knew what she was doing - do you think she actually loves him and wants to stay, or does she have her own political ambitions she wants to achieve later, or is it the money and she’s prepared to sacrifice everything for a ‘comfortable’ life financially (I can’t imagine it being comfortable in any other way) - or something else?

M0nica Wed 13-Jan-21 17:43:12

Casdon I doubt love comes into it and I feel very sure that politics are not on her mind. I always see the Trump relationship as being like a business agreement. I would imagine there is a very carefully negotiated pre-nup

I think she provides him with a wife that will not respond to all that is revealed about his shenigans with other women and will not interfere in his political games either. He gets a reliable, well behaved and presentable wife who can be taken to parties where respectable royalty and heads of government are present and can be guaranteed not to get involved in areas where he wants to reign supreme - as in government.

First ladies often get nearly as much publicity as their husbands, Trump doesn't want that, he wants a First lady who keeps out of the limelight but looks after his interests elsewhere; looks after the houses, and effectively keeps the home fires burning.

She is probably well rewarded to do this and the money she receives is well sheltered from any potential Trump.
bankruptcy.

I see the marriage as being a business agreement that suits them both.

Casdon Wed 13-Jan-21 18:35:06

Thank you, that does make sense to me - what a life though for her.

varian Wed 13-Jan-21 19:14:16

I doubt whether Melania is or ever has been the slightest bit interest in politics - it is all about money as far as she is concerned.

Kaimoana Wed 13-Jan-21 19:47:38

I can't think of any single member of the Trump clan who come across as anything other than trailer trash. Common as muck, the lot of 'em.

Republican rednecks!.

sodapop Wed 13-Jan-21 20:51:33

Agree totally MOnica I think the marriage was a business agreement with a prenup.

sodapop Wed 13-Jan-21 20:53:05

Bit of a crass statement there David for a whole group of people

growstuff Wed 13-Jan-21 20:58:49

I read an interview with/about Melania somewhere or other (I think it was before she was First Lady). She was obviously looking for a rich hubby and mixed in circles of rich men. She reckoned Trump was less "gropey" than the others - maybe he can't do much with those small hands.

M0nica Wed 13-Jan-21 21:12:05

Arranged marriages and marriages made for entirely sensible reasons rather than love have been around since marriage began and Melania Trump will not be the first woman, or the last to decide to marry where her best interest lies, rather than for love. I do think we often get overly romantic about why people marry.

She and Trump seem to be well suited and both understand and fulfill their side of the bargain.

Iam64 Wed 13-Jan-21 21:18:41

MOnica, “she and trump seem well suited and both understand and fulfill their part of the bargain”.
Imagine, that being the most positive spin to be put on Melanie

Iam64 Wed 13-Jan-21 21:19:17

Sorry, predictive text - Melania

M0nica Wed 13-Jan-21 21:24:01

.........and what is wrong with that? There are many marriages entered into because the parties were in love where some years later they would be very glad to be able to say that they were well suited and both had understand and fulfill their part of the bargain”.

PippaZ Wed 13-Jan-21 21:28:04

I have started a new thread re the agreement on the resolution that Trump should be impeached.

I hope that's alright with you all.

Hetty58 Wed 13-Jan-21 21:32:49

Yippee!

The spread of falsehoods about the integrity of the election — and now the roots of Wednesday’s rioting — have deeply infiltrated conservative Christian circles. Apocalyptic evangelical beliefs about the end of the world and the coming divine judgment blur with QAnon conspiracy theories that falsely assert the country is dominated by deep-state bureaucrats and pedophiles.

Abigail Spaulding, a stay-at-home mother of 15 who traveled to the rally with friends from her church in South Carolina, broke down in tears as she spoke about her fears for her children under a Biden administration. She said her husband had explained to their children that when Mr. Biden is sworn in as president, “they can take the Bible and call it hate speech and throw it out.” And she had other worries about Mr. Biden, drawn from Facebook and Twitter — all of which were false.

I don't envy Joe Biden having to sort out the mess.

Did Trump's insurrection have "inside assistance?"

I think without doubt that there was at least tolerance of the attempted coup if not active encouragment.

When the President himself is inciting them to storm The Capitol, when the President or his appointees make getting proper protection for The Capitol by calling up the National Guard and extra police very difficult, when those meant to be protecting it, see so much encouragment for the rioters from the President himself, then they are going to guard the building and deal with protesters on party lines and with an eye to their own futures.

There is now evidence that in 2020, as in 2916 Putin interfered with the US election in support of Trump.
