“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

Lillie....what does that have to do with this particular topic?

Lillie Thu 19-Aug-21 08:59:35

maybe ladyleftfieldlover but why do h and m feel so much pain and suffering and resentment about it all
always interminably moaning
and then the books full of it

lemsip Thu 19-Aug-21 09:00:30

oh for goodness sake Lucca lemongrove's post was a tongue in cheek quip with a smiley face.
No need to let the thread descend into squabble over a few words.

Charleygirl5 Thu 19-Aug-21 09:02:47

They have behaved despicably and the title of Duke and Duchess should be removed. I totally agree with your last sentence Ladyleftfieldlover

i thought that too

I think they are frustrated at not getting a reaction with the Queen remaining quiet and dignified as ever. She will not stoop to their level so they are trying to stir it again. They are like squabbling little kids.

Afghanistan is collapsing.
Haiti has had their president assassinated, they suffered an earthquake and a tropical storm.
We are trying to get over the worst pandemic in 100 years.
Climate change is accelerating and we won't act to stop it.
We are governed by possibly the worst government in our living memory.

But the fastest growing thread in "News and Politics" is whether an entitled pair have upset their entitled granny. Light relief I suppose.

Well said Lemongrove
'Very soon, the world will decide it’s heard enough from them.'
It's nice to think that for once maybe I'm ahead of the world!

Mawbe
'As grown adults, surely we can discuss without resorting to “squabbling “ or any suggestion of personal insults - did it really need saying?'
That would be nice.

Daisymae Thu 19-Aug-21 09:23:51

Personally I would like this couple to go away and lead the private life they supposedly wish for. If there's any truth in these rumours then it's because they need to get more outrageous to get the attention of the media. The only way they can do this is to drag the Queen's name into the fray. Why did they name their own daughter after her if they harbor such resentment?

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 09:29:15

Lucca

On your marks, get set….

Straight in there with the popcorn, Lucca wink

Not meant as a personal insult btw

Smileless2012 Thu 19-Aug-21 09:30:56

"recollections may vary" was the perfect response. What was the alternative? You're lying!!! which of course they did on several occasions during that pathetic excuse for an interview.

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 09:33:58

HM's full statement as reported in Mach:

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately."

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

JenniferEccles Thu 19-Aug-21 09:37:06

I think you have a point Daisymae when you say that H and M’s comments are becoming more outrageous purely to attract the media.

As if it wasn’t bad enough for Harry to let it be known that one of his forthcoming books won’t be published until his grandmother has died,(with all the implications of that statement) he’s decided to cause her more grief and heartache by this latest attack.

What a despicable couple they are.

Thanks for the transcript Lillie. I hadn’t read it and wouldn’t have bothered to look it up, but now I’ll know what people are talking about.
Amazing use of we and we all. I got the impression that I was being told how I felt and what I think rather than how H&M feel and think.

Aveline Thu 19-Aug-21 09:39:50

I sincerely hope they will have the grace to realise that they can never return to the UK. Insulting our Queen is a step too far. Don't come back.

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 09:40:48

March not Mach
although it could seem that M&H have fired yet another missile at the RF at Mach 2 although they could have aimed at their own feet this time.

It keeps them in the news.
Personally I think they should just fade into the background and lead the private lives they wanted.

thank you mollygo

i thought it was like using the royal 'we' like the queen does
so in a way emulating her speak

i am not trying to go off topic again just garnering proper evidence and linking back to the royal family

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 09:57:05

Yes, very odd indeed, Daisymae

Blossoming Thu 19-Aug-21 10:10:29

Oh look, a mole hill! No, my bad, it’s a fast growing mountain.

Callistemon Thu 19-Aug-21 10:13:13

I must admit that M&H are terminally boring!

So why aren't we bored?
?

NanKate

The Queen is 95, is bereaved, still works, and this dreadful pair, it appears, holds some grudge against her now. They are a total disgrace.

If they come over to the U.K. next year for the Queen’s celebrations I suspect they will get a very frosty reception.

I used to have a soft spot for Harry. To me he was always the child made to walk behind his mother’s casket.
When he married Meghan I was delighted. Her career as an actress made her ideal for the type of life the young royals face and he was clearly besotted.
Now he has turned into a pathetic wimp.
NanKate says what I think most people feel about him and his wife now.
I am certainly not a royalist but I have huge respect for the Queen. How dare that obnoxious pair publicly criticise his grandmother through anonymous “friends”.
I hope they never return to the U.K. and we cease to hear any more of their opinions.

Very well said to both of you. Couldn’t have put it better.

Lucca Thu 19-Aug-21 10:38:16

Lemsip what are you talking about ?
Lillie. Ditto
Lemongrove’s comment was tongue in cheek as was mine and im pretty sure lemongrove knows that.

Lucca Thu 19-Aug-21 10:39:57

Callistemon. ? no worries

Jabberwok Thu 19-Aug-21 10:42:31

Racism did not drive those two out of this country. The majority of people and the media were delighted when Prince Harry met and married this seemingly lovely young woman with whom He was clearly very much in love. Her race simply wasn't an issue, in fact why would anyone have been aware of her background in this respect? Those cheering crowds weren't a figment of anyone's imagination they were real and heartfelt, nobody in the RF made racist comments before Archies birth, no more than any family expecting a baby. Their recollection of that was certainly varied! These two don't want to move on, they want to be in our faces with their ridiculous comments and accusations for all time. Now they are pontificating about Afghanistan and Haiti , as if they are an authority. Heartbroken?!! Perhaps we will see them do something positive, like offer accommodation for a family or two in their 11 million dollar mansion? For the love of God, will somebody please shut these two up!
