A winter of very expensive heating and little food?

I don’t know what to make of the bleak midwinter forecast, but if there is a chance that people will be unable to heat their homes then IMO we should renationalise fuel supplies and keep prices down - I never liked the idea of essential services being used to profit shareholders, and even more so at a time like this.

True there are problems growstuff but I think the problems are delivery rather than supply
But people do tend to rush out and buy it even if they don't need it
Must say was at fuel station yesterday doing my tyre pressure just the odd customer so hopefully people will be sensible

Keep in mind the reason for all this chaos.

Yeah! I've noticed that some people seem to escape any shortages. I'm thinking of moving to lalaland.

I did not claim anywhere that it's a supply problem - it's a delivery issue and has not affected all companies. However, if you happen to live in an area with few petrol stations within a few miles' radius, it's a huge problem.

Went to a local Morrison’s at the weekend which seemed well stocked but all the Christmas puddings were being removed from the shelves…to prevent hoarding perhaps?

I wasn't trying to be argumentative growstuff just reporting what I had seen
I don't live in lalaland but a small rural town in the fens We are near a small city though with loads of filling stations

He was moaning about everything! In 2 minutes he went from pension being owed (his mum). To inflation/ childcare (he has a two year old) and energy prices.

As he left he was going to get petrol.

A person is sensible rosie but people rarely are.?

Because a few filling stations have had to close due to delivery issues no doubt queues will appear with folks topping up their half full tanks, which they would have left till under a quarter full (or in our household waiting for the fuel light to come on).

I remember when the tanker drivers went on strike (I think it was late 90’s early 00’s) seeing people trying to get as much in their tanks as humanly possible, even to the point that the fuel was overflowing…

As a society we are now dependent on our cars though, so people will keep their tanks topped up as much as possible until this situation improves. Is that panic buying or forward planning?
I’m going to visit my parents 160 miles away tomorrow so I got some this morning, and the garage was packed, I had to wait 20 minutes to get to the front of the queue.

I started having my food delivered weekly in lockdown, Sainsburys and I was grateful for it. I'd say for the first 16 months I rarely had a substitution or something missing, may twice. In the summer it started to happen. Well we are a seaside town and were packed in July and August so I just thought that was pressure. In September I've had stuff missing every week. This week it was five items and bread with short shelflife, i.e. it was best before tomorrow.

I wonder how much worse it will get.

That's why I prefer to do my own shopping for perishable items. I see the 'pickers', so many just pick the nearest item off the shelves, whereas I'm happy to reach towards the back to get a longer expiry date. A butternut squash with a short expiry date wouldn't bother me, for goodness' sake those things stay OK for weeks, but a loaf of bread or kippers would. Surprisingly my local Sainsbury's was fully stocked this Monday, nothing was totally missing, although some items weren't in plentiful supply.

This gets more true every day. It is expected that Johnson is going to reject th3 latest offer from the EU, ev3n though businesses are very happy with the offer.
