Why Diana Ross?

Why is Diana Ross headlining the Platinum Jubilee Party and not a British singer as this is a very British event?

And I also thought it was odd to have Tom Cruise the other evening.

bet you Lulu is gutted, she's very vocal about being British and a unionist ,you'd think Lizzie would have had a space for her .lol

If you're like me you type the right thing and the PC has a mind of its own. Halfords is quite nice though!

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 16:00:18

Lulu makes me want to shout.
Annie Lennox would be my choice.

Riverwalk Wed 18-May-22 16:02:36

My name is River and I've never been to Halfords, but I'm sure it's very nice!

MissAdventure Wed 18-May-22 16:03:37

That's a cue for a song...
I've been to Halfords, but I've never been to me.

Could have had Jane MacDonald and James Corden grin

I saw her in Harrods once. She's tiny. (Diana Ross, not the Queen. And I don't often go to Harrods.)

I think that may even be a rule. Any time I see a famous person I think "s/he's tiny"

kittylester Wed 18-May-22 16:57:56

I think it was The 3 Degrees that Prince Charles liked.

I also saw Diana Ross years ago - she was very good but it was years ago.

I used to go to Harrods for the loos. somewhat less after they started charging. Free if you had refreshments.

I also used to buy scrag end of neck of lamb there because I figured it would be better quality than that available from most butchers. And it was.

A friend used to go and pretend that he wanted to buy a grand piano so that he could play them. They didn't stop people because they could have been pop stars.

I used to go to Harrods when I lived near London. I always thought it was overcrowded and overpriced. The lifts were good though. Reminded me of 'Are You Being Served?'

When it comes to "tiny", Kylie takes the biscuit.

I sat next to Dara O Briain on a plane once.

He is not tiny. grin

He was lovely though.

Well the ingredients of that pudding aren’t exactly British- Swiss Roll? Amaretti biscuits? Why not Bakewell tart and Eccles cakes???
Blimey some people are so narrow minded

BlueBelle I hope that's an autocorrect grin

Harrods was my treat when I used to visit London on business. Fortnum and Mason do fab afternoon teas, or they used to!

Fortnum and Mason are currently serving a very nice Jubilee themed afternoon tea.

timetogo2016 Wed 18-May-22 17:17:42

I went to Harrods once, never saw anyone famous, then again i didn`t look at people shorter than me.
It will be interesting to see Diane Ross, close up obviously.
I thought Ed Sheeran/Adele would have been a good choice.

Katie59 Wed 18-May-22 17:19:27

I hadn’t seen Katherine Jenkins for a few years and was surprised how much weight she had lost, apparently she has liver problem, hope it improves.

Sparklefizz Wed 18-May-22 17:21:12

It was an American friend of mine who expressed surprise that in the UK we didn't think we had any suitable singers. She pointed out that in the US they don't have a British singer at the Super Bowl, for instance.

We could have had Ed Sheeran, Adele, Ellie Goulding, Jack Savoretti, Elton John to name just a few, even Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey whose voices have held up.

BlueBelle Wed 18-May-22 17:25:46

Isn’t Adele still trying to sort out her concert in US that she cancelled at short notice ?
I m with you ‘MissA’ annie Lennox would be great
I think the Queen liked Queen but then Freddy wasn’t English either so wouldn’t have suited the English only people and he’s busy rocking his harp anyway

Sparklefizz Wed 18-May-22 17:33:49

BlueBelle Don't be silly. Nobody has mentioned "English".

Annie Lennox would be great, yes.

kittylester Wed 18-May-22 17:36:21

Wasn't Shirley Bassey on TV a little while ago. Her voice had held up well.

Callistemon21 Wed 18-May-22 17:47:42

BlueBelle

Diane Ross has a great voice perhaps Charles asked for her to sing or maybe the queen likes her Who cares can we only have ‘English’ people entertain up
What a ‘little’ country we have become and what a strange original post

We have excellent Irish, Scottish and Welsh singers as well as English.

Where's Bryn Terfel?

Bring back Jimmy Shand and his band I say!

Callistemon21 Wed 18-May-22 17:48:21

There must be a wide range of singers, entertainers, across the Commonwealth too.

Calendargirl Wed 18-May-22 18:52:17

Diana Ross must be getting on a bit. Hope she can still sing, and not gone the same way as Elton, Paul M, Elaine Paige, et al, who can’t anymore.

Bridie22 Wed 18-May-22 18:57:34

I believe Ed Sheeran is on the list to perform also.

Libman Wed 18-May-22 19:05:27

Cliff Richard……..??

Joseanne Wed 18-May-22 19:08:23

Libman

Cliff Richard……..??

He could sing "Congratulations". ?
