The heatwave

It’s over and was mercifully short. On top of all the valuable advice to humans (keep out of the sun and drink more) we were reminded constantly not to walk dogs in blistering heat.
My little dog loves the river so we walked there at 6am. She hated wet hands or wet towels.
Both dog and cats liked the fan but I couldn’t get my long-haired cats to be sensible. They chose to sleep all day upstairs on the woollen carpet and I never saw them drink. I worried about them in the heat but they survived it.
I also worried about the birds and kept refilling the bird bath. Every time a pigeon would poo in it.
Did anyone’s pets accept that Mother Knows Best?

'Mother' opened doors to the cooler rooms, but both cats found different places to sleep through the heat - one outside under the trees and one in a room which wasn't the hottest but wasn't the coolest, either. So 'Mother' clearly didn't know better than them.

Having said that, one seemed to enjoy having his fur wiped the wrong way with a cold damp cloth, and purred loudly.
