As a small biy, I saw nuns - I thought they were ghosts...

The PE teachers weren't nuns. However, by the time I left the school, the nuns were wearing ordinary clothes anyway. Must have been my influence wink wink

They still wore their quite heavy crosses on chains though. One quite young nun was asked by some hippy guy if she would sell hersto him!

One of the busiest days of the year at Geneva airport today - let's hope the arrivals car-park is now re-opened!

Hope they're working at Geneva airport!

I had forgotten all about ascension day. I think it was recognised at junior school, because it was originally a church school - St Pauls. Yes, it must have been because other stuff was recognised - we got ash on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday, for instance.

Everybody in Switzerland and France has a day off today for Ascension as per tradition. In fact the French (you'd never know they have a huge economic crisis with all the BHs they take!!!) also had yesterday off- and most are taking Le Pont = the bridge, and making it into a long week-end taking Friday off too. I am keeping well away from the roads and all tourist spots, that is for sure.

We used to get a day off school work and the nuns would take us to a nearby park. As to the religious bits of it, they washed by me - I just had a good time out on the fresh air!

I remember taking my O Level French Oral on Ascension Day and my teacher telling me how to say it in French. Quite easy really. Funny what you remember. Largely useless facts !

Catholic school run by nuns, by the way.

We used to get a bus from school into the Lake District, where we would climb ascend Hellvellyn and then go and row on Windermere.

I got myself included in a crocodile going into the catholic church (because my friend was in it) Never again! Was nearly sick! grin

Nothing against Catholics of course. Was just the incense. grin

We used to walk in a crocodile to church on Ascension Day, used to moan about the incense it was a high church.Funny because I like it now. We used to sing Hail Thou Festival Day which I loved.

I remember going in a hand-in-hand crocodile down to the church with the school.
