I had this alert from a technical forum I am on this morning. I'm sharing just in case any grans have got the email....

Beware this dangerous 'Delete System 32' hoax

This tip is pretty short, but extremely important...

Most hoaxes tend to be more or less harmless aside from their irritation factor, but there's a recurring hoax making the rounds yet again that's actually quite dangerous.

In a nutshell, the intended victims receive emails or some other types of messages claiming their Windows PCs have been infected with a so-called 'System 32 virus'.

The recipients are then instructed to navigate to the place on their PC's hard drive where the System 32 'virus' resides and delete it.

The problem is, System 32 isn't a virus at all. It's actually a critical folder on the hard drive containing a bunch of your system's core Windows files. If you delete that folder you'll basically trash your PC's Windows installation.

Bottom line: If you receive any kind of message saying you need to delete System 32, don't do it. It's a hoax, and a very dangerous one at that.

Simply trash the hoax message and forget about it and your computer will be just fine.
