How many trees.......

.........do you have in your garden?

This is the Centenary Year of Forestry England - and from the aborted sell off the conservatives planned just a few years ago, they have now decided that we need millions more trees.

If every household planted two trees, this is still only about 3% of the total number of trees the Woodland Trust estimates the UK needs to plant by 2050 in order to reach net zero emissions - 1.5 billion. So, if you have a garden and/or allotment, how many trees do you have - and are you planning to plant any (more)?

We have 10 trees:
1 birch
1 rowan
1 fig
2 plum
2 pear
1 cherry
2 apples

We pruned our mature walnut last year Caz and it didn’t seem to mind to much. Its a medium sized tree but still twice as tall as the average apple. Also, apparently, the leaves are not good for compost. They certainly don’t rot down well so we put them in our brown wheelie bin for the big council compost heap.

I have two old apple trees and old pear tree, a rowan and four pine trees, plus a buckthorn, and an elderberry that have both grown into trees.

All are probably as old as the house, which was built in 1927.

Last year I planted a plum tree and a pear tree, and the year before I moved a rowan sapling, which is doing well.

We moved in at the New Year 2016 and I intend to plant more fruit trees.

We also have a shrubbery of lilacs and other flowering bushes, thorn hedges around the back garden and a copse outside the back of the garden , which mainly consists of sycamores, hawthorn and damsons.

And I forgot the hedge of unidentified nature, between the drying green and the yard, the privet hedge in the front along our neighbour's boundary, an enormous laurel. (all right, it's a bush) and about a dozen holly bushes that all intend to grow up into trees.

Oh, and our laburnum, which I didn't remember until I read MamaCaz post.

I just have a small garden, so I don’t have too many trees in it. As of now, I got one Tibetan Cherry (which is my favourite btw), one White Willow, and one Rowan, which I all bought from this nursery of ornamental garden trees. Wish I have more space to add some more ornamental trees, but I’m still happy with my garden right now.
