Can't really understand the difference between forums and topics. How does one start a forum? How does one start a topic? Thought I has started stuff and then it disappeared.

OK. sorry, found them in "other subjects". But really want a subject called Climate Change &/or the environment. How about it?

Thanks for the suggestion, carboncareful, anyone else think this would be a good idea?

A topic is a category (like 'Food') that you can start a discussion in. A discussion (also sometimes called a 'thread') is the list of comments you can add your comment to (like the one we're in now, called 'forums & topics'). 'Forums' is a general word for all the discussion pages: topics, discussions, active conversations etc.

Hope that clears things up a bit - all this terminology can floor the best of us! Don't worry too much though, we're sure you'll be able to make yourself understood whichever words you use!

Josie, you will see that there are now quite a lot of comments on my climate change/nuclear power/wind turbines/energy threads. So now is the time to have The Environment/Climate Change as a proper topic please.

GNHQ, my vote is for these topics to remain under Other Subjects. I've no objection to the subjects being raised, and in fact I take part in the discussions, but I think they are fine where they are.

As you can see we've started another topic called 'Environment'.

Thanks for your comments, baggy - we thought it wasn't doing too much harm to categorise threads as what they're about. We do hope it's not too annoying that those threads are all in one place, so you can participate or not as you wish. Feel free to let us know your thoughts.

Thanks, Josie, its great that Environment is now a proper topic. I guess baggy doesn't think looking after the planet for the sake of her grandchildren is important enough to warrent being upgraded. Lets get our priorities right: knitting and style & beauty have to be more important than the environment. Curiously baggy was the first person to post a comment on the new topic!
