Have any of you ever thought about hiring equipment for your granchildren when they come to visit. Things like stairgates, fireguards even travel cots can be really usefull.

No sandra. Hadn't thought of that.

Where would I go for that?

Between us, my friends and I can muster a complete set of baby equipment - can you not ask around?

I have an arrangement with a friend and we share what we each have between us which is all very well, unless we have the grandchildren at the same time when it can get a bit difficult! Luckily they all seem to be staggered in age and at different stages so mostly it works out. If I was more energetic and proactive, I would get the thing going on a bigger scale in the village, including garden equipment, carpet steamers etc.... confused

On the basis that items like these will hopefully will be used quite frequently, I feel that it's better to buy or acquire your own.
You could try a "Freecycle group" if you have one in your area. Or there are often very good "nearly new" sales organised by local playgroups etc.
