HQ would you please post (on GN) the MN thread ..
Should we support a Citizen Assembly as a way of breaking the Brexit Deadlock?

lemongrove Mon 10-Dec-18 22:14:38

Cherry...this sounds a bit like something set up during the French Revolution! ?

Cherrytree59 Mon 10-Dec-18 22:40:28

Guillotine and knitters?wink

lemongrove Mon 10-Dec-18 22:55:18

Maybe a few heads (politicians) should roll !

Bathsheba Mon 10-Dec-18 23:09:28

I take it you mean this thread

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Dec-18 23:33:59

Are yellow gilets compulsory?
(I could knit one as I sit at the guillotine)

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Dec-18 23:34:39

but it would all be over before I had knitted the back of it, I'm very slow.

A citizens assembly? How long would that take to set up?

mcem Tue 11-Dec-18 09:04:11

Lots of sensible well-expressed views made on MN. Many different opinions but there seems to be a better level of debate than on GN.
On the proposed Assembly, I 'd assume it would be an advisory body and not a substitute for parliamentary debate and decisions.

I propose a Granny Assembly. We'd get it sorted in time for tea.... and lay on a delicious home made spread.

mcem Tue 11-Dec-18 09:11:39

I think we'd have to work hard to dispel the myth that everyone over 50 is a right-wing brexit voter!
And however light-hearted comments may be about tea and cakes, they don't do much to get rid of the stereotype!

PamelaJ1 Tue 11-Dec-18 09:13:06

mcen, I’ve just read a few comments on MN and they seem to think , as I think we do,that it’s a bit late. Maybe a better discussion but I think we on GN can see that it’s a waste of time debating it so are just having a bit a fun.
Is that a really bad thing?

mcem Tue 11-Dec-18 10:24:52

Given that there are vast numbers of world-wide problems over which we have no control or direct influence, the conclusion would be that there is no point in discussing any of them then!
I was simply pointing out that on MN there was a better level of argument and that there are some issues that deserve being taken seriously.
Wouldn't life be easier if serious issues could all be treated as a bit of fun?

Pittcity Tue 11-Dec-18 10:34:54

I don't feel qualified to join a serious argument as even brilliant legal brains I know have difficulty understanding what's going on.

Jalima1108 Tue 11-Dec-18 18:16:13

I am still under Maws duvet hiding away.
It was my duvet - or are there two shock
It could get a bit crowded
bring the wine Izabella, preferably Australian or NZ.

Jane10 Tue 11-Dec-18 19:34:41

And if we didn't feel the citizens assembly was representative enough we could have a referendum to see if we needed another citizens assembly and so on ad infinitum. grin
(Note I know all this brexit stuff is a nightmare!)

Izabella Wed 12-Dec-18 09:38:48

Jalima profuse apologies. But worry not, I have a spare king size. I also have a good supply (recently replenished) of a rather good NZ white and a portable drinks fridge.

But that's just the practical stuff. What we can actually do about this political mess is beyond me now.

Jalima1108 Wed 12-Dec-18 20:51:11

Yes please - to the NZ white!!
(just the one bottle????? - we may need more)
I ventured out today and forgot about it all (well nearly) but back under the duvet again now.

We can do nothing.

Ooh, apologies CherryTree59. We missed this. Do you mean add a link? If so here it is: Should we support a Citizen Assembly as a way of breaking the Brexit Deadlock?
