Bizarre beauty trend sees women glue their top lip to achieve a plumper pout

A bizarre new beauty craze is seeing people glue their top lip to the skin below their nose, apparently giving the illusion of a fuller pout.

A clip of the technique reveals a young woman applying glue to her philtrum (the area of skin between the top lip and nose) before pulling up her top lip and pressing it to stick to the adhesive.

After letting go, her lip stays fixed in place, sort of giving the appearance of a fuller pout.

The video was originally posted to TikTok, but has since gone viral on Twitter, with many sharing their confusion about the new trend.

Health warnings
Unsurprisingly, as with many of the recent viral beauty crazes, this one certainly comes with risks.

While it isn’t known the type of glue used in the clip, one of the main concerns would be using super glue to stick down your lip, which is a major faux pas for your face and skin.

According to consultant pharmacist, James O'Loan at www.doctor-4-u.co.uk using super glue on your skin could lead to some pretty nasty consequences.

"Super glue is not usually capable of causing serious harm to skin but it can easily damage it if not removed properly,” he explains.

The Health warning should state:
That anyone considering this course of action needs their brain or a brain glued back into their heads !

It's madness, isn't it?

I think those huge pouts look awful; but each generation has its own look. It's just a shame that these days it involves irreversible procedures.

I haven't seen a glued face; but I dread to think what women with lots of fillers in their lips will look like when they are the wrong side of 50.

If I glued my lip up, all it would do is expose my receding gums!

More fool her/them.

Oh dear. As Doodledog says, though, each generation has its own look.

I remember in the late 60s alternating several coats of mascara with several coats of talcum powder. For some reason it was fashionable to look as though you were wearing particularly bad false eyelashes.

And I wondered why I had recurring eye infections. grin

Ooh - do you think I could glue my eyelids so that they look tighter and less baggy?

Ps Do not try this at home

It's a shame that young women think they have to change themselves - bigger lips, bigger boobs and whats with the bigger bum! - all so they can get lots of "likes" on social media. One of the reasons I dislike "reality" programmes is because they concentrate on looks as if that is all you need to be successful

Every generation comes up with bizarre beauty "enhancements", some more bizarre than others. Like a previous poster, I too used to coat my eyelashes in talcum powder and mascara and had several infections as a result. I also used to spray my hair silver, not realising I was spraying neat aluminium onto my scalp, resulting in several bald patches!

But we survived.

It seems counter-productive doesn't it? Wanting to look "sexier" is trying to look more attractive to others, with a view to finding a partner eventually. And what's the first thing you do when you find one? Hold hands and kiss!

I can't imagine that's much fun for either partner when one party has their face held together with glue!

(Or don't people do that any more?)

EllanVannin Sat 14-Sep-19 10:19:43

Who or what are all these people trying to be ? Put all these freaks together and they look like clones.

If a husband/partner wishes all these changes- then change the partner and not yourself.
There's nothing attractive about lips like rolls of lino ! Why ??
Why would you want to look like someone else ?

These women who TRY to enhance themselves would do better to hang on to all their ££££'s for later life when their mental health will suffer so needing treatment for that along with old age would be a far better investment.

I'm waiting for news where some idiot has used super-glue and stuck their lip to their nose, unable to breathe ! This is narcissism of the highest order ( obsession ) It's a mental illness !
