Short hair

I've only ever had short hair twice in my life, once when I was 12 and once when I was 17. Each time was a disaster with the hair not falling well and the curls going all over the place. Since lockdown my hair is now half way down my back! It's thick and curly, but dry and tends to frizz. I'm starting to look like a cave woman or an aging hippy! I intend to cut the ends myself soon. I would never have it short though and I'm just wondering why so many women opt for short hair when they get older.

I think that short hair can be more flattering plus of course it's easier to manage. I wash mine every day, but it's fine and super quick to dry. I have cut the front a couple of times and it looks ok.

When I had my hair cut fairly short a dear old gentleman told me that it 'takes 10 years off you'.
As he was 99 at the time I think he is a good judge and that's good enough for me.

My hair has been various lengths my whole life, I have it cut short whenever I fancy it and grow it easily into a bob. I'm fortunate that it suits me both long and very short and I have the confidence not to care what anyone else thinks.

Short hair can be flattering, it lifts the focus upwards. I am wondering if I could ask my hairdresser to cut my hair in my garden?

sparkly could be tricky at a distance of 2 metres!

Since lockdown I have let my hair grow longer (for obvious reasons) and so many people (on Zoom etc) have said that they prefer my hair longer, so I may well try to let it stay a bit longer after lockdown - especially now it has got past the awkward ear zone.

This morning I towel dried my "in between pixie and bob" style hair and just blasted it with a hairdrier. I now have the "Tina Turner" look - much to the amusement of my DH who is also struggling with a grown out cut!

My hair has always had a mind of its own and I never know which way its going to do what each day. By keeping it short I’m in with a chance. And it’s still short. It grew like wildfire over the last few weeks and decided several days running that the Ringo Starr look was good. Even strong hair spray wouldn’t keep it out of my eyes.

So out with the scissors, and it’s now really short on top and more or less shorter across the back where I trimmed it by feel. Still long at the bottom though. Apparently it looks ok as a couple of friends asked where I’d found a hairdresser!

The trouble is I now have to wait for it to grow before facing my own hairdresser when he re-opens.

I do think a hair style has to suit the shape of the face Older women with long hair ..like a 16 year old isn't flattering to them and gives a witch effect...Big faces need hair styles at least to the shoulder but no longer. small faces look great with pixie hair styles. I think some women see a hair style on another woman and think they will look like as good as that, and that can be fatal. Its all to do with bone structure and age of course. Just don't do the mother and daughter look a like that causes many a smirk..I good honest hairdresser would advise you if you asked. Women with long grey hair is definitely a no no. I recently observed two ladies about 60 plus, one had grey hair and one had white, the lady with white looked more youthful and it made her face softer, grey can give a severe hard look. There are several shampoos for grey hair and white ,which enhance the hair ,and the grey is softened and doesn't look so severe.
