Tomorrow I have a hair appointment but for the first time I will just have a trim, I have decided to embrace the greys and not have my roots done again. I have threatened to do this before but have laterchangedmy in d, however this time I'm decisive.
I wondered if anyone else has made the same decision during lockdown.

No....just the opposite, I need colour and feel better with it.
A good friend has given up to ‘embrace the grey’ during lockdown and looks about a hundred years old.?

Oh dear I must look about a hundred and five then. shock
I gave up dyeing my hair - highlights and lowlights at least five years ago

Lovely photo of you Maw.

I have always had highlights apart from being pregnant in my late thirties when it was a light to mid brown colour. I last had my hair done in mid January and was due in the first week of March but chickened out. All the colour has faded and I’m not at all keen on my whitish hair. It’s fine and straight and grown like crazy. The ends are like kapok they are so dry. DD1 thinks it’s very aging and I should get it coloured asap, DD2 says regrowth doesn’t notice as it was quite blonde anyway. I’m going to try and cut it myself as I’m not ready to visit hairdresser yet.

MawB I think you look great! I think with grey/white hair you can get away with shorter funkier styles because the contrast is softer. You are rock in’ it

What a nice picture MawB. Your hair looks great.
I’m afraid I can’t wait to get mine coloured again.

I’ve been having blond highlights in Shoulder length mouse brown hair for over 25 years with a view to transitioning gracefully into grey, or preferably that lovely flattering white colour. Since lockdown I’ve found that I don’t actually have any grey hair yet - I’m 68 in October, it’s bizarre. My hair is still just mouse brown with four months of growing out blond highlights. I’ve cut my hair about 6” by putting it upside down in the sink and just cutting straight across. The result is long layered! Don’t think I’ll return to hairdresser for quite a while just to see what happens. Please no one work out how much money I could have saved in not bothering with highlights for 25 years! ???£££££

Dylant1234 pretty much the same as me. Agree with the money spent on colour!!

I can't live without brightly coloured hair either and I can't count how many times did I change the color. I always use a Photodiva service to try another hair color to see if it will suit me, but grey isn't the one that suits, haha!

Dylant you are so lucky.

Hairdressers must be worried longer term, because this lockdown has shown some people they don't need to spend so much on their hair.

Yes I'm also trying to ditch the dye. Last hair dye was 13th March then lockdown. Hairdresser cut my hair on Wednesday 8th July, about 2 inches off, hair is just past my shoulders now. When I told my haidresser what I was contemplating she agreed this was the right time to have a go.

Well I had my hair appointment today and I was so indecisive, both about the length and the colour. My husband had said he likes it longer and going white!
My hairdresser was so patient. She offered to do the cut first to see how it looked and how I felt about not colouring it. I was pleased with the cut, not as short as I used to have it but nice and tidy, a good shape.
I decided I really wanted some colour as it looked too washed out and very thin at the front. After much discussion I settled for a few foils on the top to put a bit of colour back in. I liked it, but it still looked very white, so she offered to add some more colour. More foils and the third wash of the morning. I was very happy with the result. It will be a gradual transition from a full head of colour.

On a different note, it was really quite scary to be spending so long indoors with strangers. The riskiest thing I have done since 13 March.

I had my last hair colour at the salon on 13th March so I am 5 months in. I have shoulder length hair with a fringe. The fringe was the first to show the grey ( its a light grey as my original hair colour was light mousy ) fringe is nearly all done. Underneath sides of hair are very grey but not showing on top hair? Anyway, I'm giving it a go, see what happens. Have had one appointment with hairdresser since lockdown, just a cut, apparentley lots of ladies stopping colouring their hair. Good luck.

I have naturally light coloured hair, with some grey in it and also have highlights done usually every six months. It’s now a year since I had it done, so have made an appointment for September. It still looks ok, but will look better once done.
My hair is similar to yours in length now Woodmouse so am pulling it back in a messy updo in this heat.

MawB ?
You don’t have the wrinkles my friend does!

I'm #excited that I'm having hair cut and coloured today....im not ready for the grey look yet.....least I've tried it ?

My wife is at Toni &Guy today having the deep auburn colour restored. She says that she might consider going grey when former Beatle Ringo does.

Here he is seen with his son Jason.

Well I gave in yesterday, not gone back to my Old colour , just a bit lighter.
My hair wasn’t grey enough to be grey and not black enough to be black!
Anyway I’ve dyed my hair for many years and I think I look better today than I have done for the last 5 months.
It’s the first place I’ve been to and sat down indoors since March, so it was very strange and god was it hot!

Cabbie21 Thu 20-Aug-20 22:10:15

It is my second visit to the hairdresser tomorrow. I think I am going to have a bit of colour in, foils on top like I did last time. I am getting used to it being generally lighter all over, except at the back where it is mid brown, but I do need a bit a bit more colour round my face.
I would really like it shorter whilst the weather is warm but not too short.

CanadianGran Thu 20-Aug-20 22:38:14

Embracing the grey here. I'll soon be 59 and felt a bit 'fake' the last few years with my mid-brown hair. Let it go under quarantine, and once I finally got to my hairdresser in mid June we decided on a nice short cut, and she has since put in some streaks of ashy-blond to blend in the roots a bit better.

I'm fine with it, it's growing on me (ha - literally!) Will soon match my dear husband.
