Advice on toppers/extensions for fine limp hair

I was hoping for some advice on what to do with my fine , over processed hair. My son is getting married abroad in the summer and it's going to be really hot. My hair isn't too bad usually but it just goes limp and lifeless in the heat. It's blonde and in a long sort of bob with a fringe . I don't really like it tied back and I don't know how to put it up myself . As we will be abroad I won't be able to try out any hairdressers beforehand. It has got a lot thinner at the front so I'm just not sure what to do with it. I have thought about a topper or even a few extensions but I'm not sure. I don't want anything that looks obvious if you know what I mean. I don't want length just more body. I did ask my usual hairdresser but she is quite basic really and couldn't advise.

I was hoping someone on Gransnet might have tried something similar and could offer some advice.

My hairdresser uses Matrix volume bloom on my fine hair. To quote a friend, ‘You seem to have more hair than you used to have’. I bought a bottle of it from the salon three years ago and I’m still using it. It’s available on Amazon, and I’ve noticed Matrix has a stronger version too. I think it’s an American brand.

Thanks Forlonehope. I'm going to look on Amazon nowsmile

Being a fading redhead, I have the same problem in heat. My hair remains thick at the back but has thinned at the front. I’ve been recommended Champo hair products as a longer term fix (just need to rationalise the cost!). Otherwise, welded with much extra strong spray over dry shampoo. Feels yucky but works.

I use hair building fibres. They really do make a big difference. They are in a powder form and come in a variety of colours so you can match to your own colour. You can get them off Amazon and places like Boots.

Thanks ladies. I have seen the Champo products advertised but I must admit the cost put me off. I'll have to bite the bullet and try it. I'll try the fibres as well. At least I have a few months to experiment a bit.

I'd maybe ask around for a good hairdresser that does extensions or clip in toppers. They can order in advance and colour it to match your hair, then you will get some practice at doing your own hair before the event.

Failing that, a good mousse really adds volume, and set some larger rollers right at the roots as your hair dries.

I am taking the plunge & having hair extensions done by my hairdresser in 2 weeks, as my hair is very fine & thinning now.
I will update you then….!

Looking forward to your update Barleysugar. I could do with finding a hairdresser that does extensions . My current hairdresser doesn't . I've been going to her for years now and I like the way she colours my hair so I feel a bit disloyal going elsewhere but I really think I need to.

I paid for my daughter to have extensions after having a tumour removed from her thyroid and various other health issues left her with thinning hair , I'll upload a photo to show you

I don’t have your problems but I think you need to invest in the advice of a good hairdresser. Your present hairdresser should not have allowed your hair to become over processed. Professional help is far better than trying products at home.

It costs around £400 for the hair and fitting, then around £80 every 6 weeks for maintenance

That's amazing Debbie58. What a difference and it looks so natural. That's what I want only shorter. You have a very pretty daughter by the way.
