Can anyone recommed a hotel in Whitby, Yorks, for two friends for a well needed break? Ideally within walking distance of the harbour. Thanks.

Chris we're going to Whitby at the end of August for Folk Week but we always get a self catering apartment.

I expect you know that Whitby is hilly so they could end up doing a lot of walking.

I find the hotels a bit old fashioned but people I know have stayed at the Royal and the Metropole.

Sorry not to be of more help but this link might help thedms.discoveryorkshirecoast.com/thedms.aspx?dms=13&GroupId=8&venue=1710555

I stayed in a really lovely B&B just outside Whitby some years ago. If you are interested I could find out if it's still run by the same people. They also did an evening meal which was really superb. Lovely rooms, totally self-contained with your own entrance too as far as I remember.

Hi- if you go to Bagdale Hall, near the centre, ask not to go to the annexe up the hill, as this is not as lovely as the main building. The park and museum nearby are very interesting as is the Captain Cook museum.
