Decline and Fall

First time I've seen the point of the ubiquitous Jack Whitehall!

We recorded it so will watch it again in a few weeks.Hope to see Jack Whitehall in more things.

Just caught up with this. Wow what an excellent production. So well written and the casting was superb. We're still laughing at Captain Grimes's facial expression as he awaited his bride!
I do love Waugh's books and worried about how this one might translate to TV but it was in sure hands with the BBC. More of this quality please!

p.s. It is a long time since I heard my husband laugh out loud at the television - but he did at this last episode and it was so good to hear, he is very low at the moment. So thank you BBC

Just watched all the episodes today, what a hoot, really enjoyed the series.

I really enjoyed it. And all the dialogue was audible! So it can be done! Very sad that we've lost Tim Piggot Smith though.

I thought this last episode was brilliantly funny, and I'm ashamed to say that there was one grisly scene that I laughed so hard at that I nearly fell out of my chair! Brilliant cast, and good to think that what must have been Tim Pigot-Smith's last work was a TV triumph.

It was great. Jack Whitehall was perfect. So clever and funny loved every minute.

I really enjoyed Decline and Fall. I laughed the whole way through. It was so we'll dramatised and acted. I thought Jack Whitehall was superb. The BBC do these shows so we'll, I wonder why they don't make more.

It was all so ridiculous that it really was fun - not like some of the other things which TRY to be fun and are really ridiculous Good entertainment, - no foul language hurrah! - and perfect timing. Agree the tribute to Tim Pigot-Smith was good.

What a treat it was! Even though I thought it was perfect Sunday night viewing, rather than Friday - the scheduling felt a bit wrong somehow.

Much enjoyed. More like this please! I'm getting bored of cookery competitions, house moving programmes, and various other time fillers. More proper dramas please! Decline and Fall was a delight!

This series was such fun. Really rated Jack Whitehall.
It was good to see the dedication to Tim Pigot-smith at the end.

....and 'I'm in the soup again'

I love Douglas Hodge's 'I'm standing in front of an oncoming train and there's sod all I can do about it' expressions.

I think Douglas Hodge is a hoot - "I'm in a bit of an hole, old boy" is brilliant.

The naked German architect ( Otto?) was a hoot.
Pennyfeather is so gloriously naive and sweet, isn't he?

Stephen Fry recommended the book when he was interviewed donkeys years ago and I got it from the library. The adaptation is very good and I love Pennyfeather's efforts to fit in with the bunch of characters he comes across.
It is SO well done and I'm so glad they didn't make a hash of it! It would have broken my heart as I was looking forward to it so much.

Haven't read any of Waugh's work and after about 10 minutes of Decline & Fall I was ready to turn off. But then DH laughed out loud, I got into the rhythm of it and we found the hour flew by. Didn't know Jack Whitehall, but he is perfect - they are all perfect, and all seem to be having the most wonderful time. Loved it.

David Suchet was great, loved the bit where he said 'the fire escape, must never ever be used, even in an emergency !

I thought it was very funny, and had a brilliant cast. David Suchet was enjoying himself hugely!

Yes I like you mw read it decades ago. I have recently read "A handful of dust" and "Vile Bodies" I read a huge amount of 1920/30s publications as am fascinated by that period and love the feel of them.

Enjoyed the BBC adaption.

DH was busy last night but watched it this morning, he was laughing his head off.
Have only seen Jack Whitehall in 8 out of 10 cats so was surprised at how good he was.Looking forward to the next installment.

Loved it! I too read Waugh decades ago and had forgotten how good he is.
Of course he is totally outrageous, the PC brigade's hair will have been standing on end, but does it so WELL!!
