Wouldn't it be refreshing if these people who appear on Who do You think You are? could think of comments to make apart from "Wow", "Whoa" and "Amazing" every few minutes? (You know it's you, Daniel Radcliffe! grin )

RosieLeah Tue 23-Jul-19 15:42:25

Most of the guests are actors....nuff said. The most intriguing one was Frank Gardner...who it appears should now be recumbent in Buckingham Palace!

I like the program and I really like Daniel Radcliffe but I thought Monday’s program was deathly boring.

Jaxie Tue 23-Jul-19 16:04:44

RosieLeah, Do you mean incumbent? I'm glad I watched the blubfest Long Lost Family which clashed with WDYTYA if it was so boring.

Calendargirl Tue 23-Jul-19 19:50:30

I think it was Ian Mckellan who kept saying “oh stop it!” when new facts materialised on WDYTYA that put me off watching it anymore. Plus the fact that if they really wanted to find out about their past, most of these celebrities could either look it up themselves as most of us do, or pay their PA’s to do it.

Anniebach Tue 23-Jul-19 19:53:19

Simple really, don’t watch

Treebee Tue 23-Jul-19 20:13:44

Well, I enjoyed Daniel’s programme and thought it refreshingly free of the usual clichés. I too have a relative who killed themselves and it’s given me an idea of how to find out more information.
Looking forward to the rest of the series too.

Calendargirl Tue 23-Jul-19 20:19:25

Anniebach.
If the don’t watch was for me, then I posted that I have stopped watching actually.

aggie Tue 23-Jul-19 20:29:52

I watched it as i live in a village near Banbridge and our Local History Society posted on facebook about one of his ancestors actually came from our area and the name is still in the village , but there was none of that on the programme , I found it boring too wink

Grammaretto Tue 23-Jul-19 20:43:24

He wasn't very comfortable was he? A most depressing story and the WOW!! every few moments was distracting.
However it was a better standard of TV than most.

HootyMcOwlface Tue 23-Jul-19 20:50:57

I found the way he kept twitching his nose deeply irritating!

Luckygirl Tue 23-Jul-19 20:54:50

I thought that too much time was given over to the great (?great) uncle who committed suicide. I am sure there was more social history to be ferreted out about some of the other relatives.

I had no problem with Daniel - seemed like a nice boy!

Nannyxthree Tue 23-Jul-19 21:08:23

When our new PM was on WDYTYA a while ago it seemed he was related to royalty too. Although on the' wrong side of the blanket' if I remember correctly.

I thought Daniel was fine, I'm not a Harry Potter devotee, he seemed a bit gauche at times but genuinely interested in both sides of the family, reasonably interesting and somewhat sad, as often is the case. I've seen programmes in the series which have been quite boring compared to this one.

Jabberwok Wed 24-Jul-19 10:07:49

All those letters/ photos from WW1 + the suicide note were immensely moving, and if they're not interesting I don't know what is!!! The whole programme was much better than I thought it would be. Not being a Harry Potter fan, I had never heard of this rather lovely young man but his family history was fascinating and well worth watching.

Alima Wed 24-Jul-19 11:02:38

Thought it was quite an interesting episode. Never seen Harry Potter, remember DR as Pip in Great Expectations donkeys years ago. There is a new narrator, was trying to remember who it used to be.

Blinko Wed 24-Jul-19 11:04:19

The previous narrator was Mark Strong, I think.

Calendargirl Wed 24-Jul-19 11:04:53

Cherie Lunghi narrated a while ago I think, then was it Tom Hollander?

Calendargirl Wed 24-Jul-19 11:05:54

Oh yes Blinko, think you’re correct with Mark Strong.

I found his upward inflection very irritating and rather gauche. I have never seen any Harry Potter stuff but surely he doesn’t speak like that when he is acting.

Sparklefizz Sat 27-Jul-19 13:38:17

He comes across as a boy. Hard to believe he's a man of 30. And yes, I agree with you 00mam00 about that annoying upward inflection.

Luckygirl Tue 06-Aug-19 13:42:04

The episode with Jack Whitehall last night was not great viewing. His father Michael seems to be a very obnoxious man and I would pay good money to never see him again! grin

Anniebach Tue 06-Aug-19 14:01:55

I enjoyed it. Michael Whitehall does duo acts with Jack

Maggiemaybe Tue 06-Aug-19 14:49:12

I think it’s just an act on Whitehall Sr’s part. I enjoy the way the two of them spark off each other.

Blinko Tue 06-Aug-19 15:29:47

I thought last evening's episode was interesting, and JW's take on things amusing. I like the way the two of them interact, too.
