I have just read that Monty Don's dog Nigel had died. They have buried him with his tennis balls. I shall miss his presence on Gardener's World.

Calendargirl Mon 11-May-20 17:43:55

Oh no!

I wonder how old he was?

SueDonim Mon 11-May-20 17:54:46

I thought this was going to be about Nigel Farage. blush

Urmstongran Mon 11-May-20 17:56:28

And my first thought was ‘is it Nigel Havers?’
?

grannysyb Mon 11-May-20 17:58:07

Sad, but he had such a lovely life, the cameraman obviously loved him!

MawB Mon 11-May-20 18:01:15

???

I thought he looked so old on Friday. What a lovely dog he was. We’ve followed him from a pup through to his death.

Monty must be devastated.

Lisagran Mon 11-May-20 18:19:45

sad

Although I didn't watch the programme, losing a much loved pet is always hard.flowers

Carillion01 Mon 11-May-20 18:31:27

On Friday at the end of the programme I listened a bit closer when Monty said the other two dogs had gone into hiding from the weather but that Nigel had stayed close by.
Animals can have a special sense. I wonder if Nigel needed to be close to Monty. Did he sense something was going to be different? What a lovely dog he was.

Casdon Mon 11-May-20 18:35:49

Poor Nigel, and poor Monty, he was a beautiful dog. Gardeners World has been a real highlight for me in the last few weeks when everything else has been so gloomy, and the bond between them was clear to see, so I’m really sad to hear this.

merlotgran Mon 11-May-20 18:37:23

I must admit I shed a tear when I read this on facebook. Such a lovely dog. They can't go on for ever but he was a much loved TV 'personality.' The Dons have lost a friend.

RIP Nigel.

DillytheGardener Mon 11-May-20 18:43:42

Oh that’s very sad, poor Nigel. sad I’ve always enjoyed shows where the presenters have a pooch. My son has got me into watching Philip Mould’s YouTube show (as fake or fortune has been postponed because of covid) and it’s similar to antiques roadshow that I love. I love his sweet little dog Cedric.

Callistemon Mon 11-May-20 18:54:11

Oh dear, very sad
He had a bad accident a while ago but had recovered, but always seemed much more quiet after that.

RIP Nigel.

seacliff Mon 11-May-20 19:08:16

I loved Nigel too, like many others. Beautiful boy.

DanniRae Mon 11-May-20 19:09:24

I am so sad that Nigel has died. I loved watching him and Nelly (?) following Monty about the garden. They seemed such wonderful, faithful dogs sad
Apparently Nigel was 12yrs old.

Lisagran Mon 11-May-20 19:27:36

sad

shysal Mon 11-May-20 19:31:15

I wonder whether they acquired little Pattie knowing that Nigel's days were numbered.

Kalu Mon 11-May-20 19:36:14

So upset to read Nigel has gone. I loved watching him and Nellie, very much a part of the programme as much as Monty.
Losing a loved pet is heartbreaking.

Goodbye Nigel.

Smileless2012 Mon 11-May-20 19:51:11

Oh that is sad. Monty must be heartbroken.

nanaK54 Mon 11-May-20 19:53:56

I seem to have something in my eye
Beautiful boy
Poor Monty

EllanVannin Mon 11-May-20 20:18:32

Poor dog, he was a lovely animal and followed his master around the garden which he must have loved and enjoyed too.
So sad for poor Monty as well, he'll miss him.

Puzzler61 Mon 11-May-20 20:30:41

Feel sad that Monty and his family have lost their beloved Nigel. I’ll miss him too, he seemed to love being part of GW with Monty.
