I feel queasy after watching Masterchef ?

A dessert made to impress the judges...

Fig leaf crumble, toasted hay custard and rhubarb garnished with wood ants for texture. It’s not any kind of play on words, there was real hay in the custard and there were foraged wood ants in the rhubarb!

If it was served up to the contestants later in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here it wouldn’t be out of place.

Yuk. Did it impress the judges?

My OH is doing more cooking these days, and he likes to not use recipes be 'adventurous in the kitchen'. So on the weekend we had baked aubergine halves topped with a mixture of flaked mackerel, sundried tomatoes, chilli, and um, walnuts. It was ... interesting. smile

its Professional Masterchef ,just finished at10pmI was surprised he got through I thought the Asian guy 's food looked much better, the ants on that plate were awful with their wee legs up in the air....yuck

Thanks paddyanne I couldn’t figure out where I’d just watched it. My Virgin tivo box is playing up. I began to think I’d imagined it!

I agree, I was surprised he got through to the next round. They weren’t overly impressed with his dessert but his main course seemed to win them over.

I like my food vegan, plain and simple - oh and a whole plateful too.

The tiny portions, decoration, and fiddly, complicated stuff on Masterchef is so off putting!

Think less would have been more in this case. The contestants go overboard trying to impress the judges which often is too much. My husband was a chef and is often appalled in the Professional programme by the lack of basic knife skills and inability to do simple tasks like filleting fish or butchering meat.

Wierd!! And the chef went through! Suppose he was considered "interesting"!! Hmmm!

The Asian guy didn’t do well with the desert either so it was really neck and neck. They chose the other guy on his “potential” to do something different. Young Alex who got through was brilliant.
I do think the quality of professional chefs has been better in this series than previous ones.

Next time I find ants crawling on the bar, if ever we reopen, instead of calling out pest control, I’ll just drop them in the pink gin shall I?

Yuk. Sounds awful. Emperors clothing anyone?

Sodapop I was also a chef and also shocked at the lack of basic skills.
Also sometimes wonder how a 22 year old who has been to college for 2 years can be head chef, not much experience there !!!
Although if he is the only chef in a small place I suppose it could be correct. There did not seem to be much handwashing either.

Never watch it, we can't bear Greg Wallace!

Agree grannysyb

I can’t see why dead ants on a plate causes more queasiness than dead duck or dead chicken. Either you eat dead animals or you don’t.

jusnoneed Wed 18-Nov-20 11:35:35

I only watch the end usually when I switch the tv back from sky but the thing that gets me annoyed is Marcus Wareings hair!

sodapop Wed 18-Nov-20 13:03:57

That's true geekesse but somehow insects are a step too far for me at least.

I was inclined to think if this chef serves up ant encrusted dessert there will be customers willing to pay the over inflated price for the delicacy.

But if some of them go astray in the kitchen his ratings will plummet if they are found during a visit by health inspectors ?????

We noticed the lack of hand washing as well felice. Another bugbear is the prep areas being messy, do they never wipe down.
There have been one or two talented people but a lot of the contestants lack experience.

My husband caught some of this, and couldn’t stop laughing ?. Sounds gross?
