Anyone else watching this and finding it a bit disjointed (or is it just me)?

I've watched some more episodes and enjoying it now, not as gripping as some others of the same ilk but watchable.

Sparklefizz Fri 18-Dec-20 10:40:25

I gave up with this. Please could someone briefly tell me how it ended?

NotSpaghetti Sun 06-Dec-20 23:22:04

felice

Just realised, that in Hinterland the Orphanage had been turned into an Hotel, with the same nasties who ran the Orphanage involved.
Tried Valhalla here but it is the original Language with Flemish subtitles.

Can't you change the language on settings somewhere? Seems a pity!

Greeneyedgirl Sun 06-Dec-20 18:02:05

Yes, we always comment on that too Merlot but hey, it wouldn’t be exciting otherwise........

BlueBelle Sun 06-Dec-20 15:55:52

Well finished it and I liked it although I do agree about the cops rushing off into very dangerous situations on their own with not even any back up knowing where they are
But it was definitely watchable

Sparklefizz Sun 06-Dec-20 15:52:20

I suppose this is what makes the story. I also think it strange that a female cop will go into some creepy woods with just a torch, for example. Also that no one ever draws their curtains when it gets dark, so any intruder can look in and see exactly what they are doing!

I am not enjoying Valhalla as much as other Scandi dramas though.

merlotgran Sun 06-Dec-20 15:36:02

Is it just me who thinks how odd it is that they dash off and investigate possibly dangerous new leads on their own?

Greeneyedgirl Sun 06-Dec-20 10:27:03

I always enjoy these Scandi mysteries, even if some are similar. I like that mostly their actors look like “normal” people, not film stars.

mokryna Sun 06-Dec-20 10:19:00

What a twist last night! I am enjoying it as much as DNA

BlueBelle Sun 06-Dec-20 10:15:00

Only just caught up with this but watched 1-4 in a binge watch and I am enjoyed it just two to go

I will persevere with episodes 3 & 4 as you all say it improves. Watch this space.

But, what is bugging me, is, does anyone else think the storyline is familiar?

In a review of Valhalla before the first episode, the reviewer said he thought it seemed like a composite of a handful of previous Scandi Noir dramas, and not just because of the snow! He even thought Kata looked like Saga, but that's taking it much too far! (and none of Saga's lovely jumpers!)

felice Tue 01-Dec-20 08:18:23

It was the Welsh drama Hinterland which had a background of a derelict orphanage.

Witzend Tue 01-Dec-20 07:07:55

We’ve only watched one episode so far, so I do wish people wouldn’t include spoilers about the plot.

Maggiemaybe Mon 30-Nov-20 23:49:23

I wasn’t sure about this after the first couple of episodes, but it’s picked up in 3 and 4. Unfortunately we’re boxing and coxing Valhalla episodes with ones of The Bridge series 4, and I keep getting them confused. grin Not helped by the fact that The Bridge series 3 had a similar storyline, re abuse in a children’s home.

Auntieflo Mon 30-Nov-20 22:46:07

? Oh Merlotgran, glad I wasn't imagining it then!

merlotgran Mon 30-Nov-20 19:47:51

Yes Auntieflo and I think there has been more than one drama about murders connected to a derelict orphanage where children were abused.

Can't remember them individually though.

Auntieflo Mon 30-Nov-20 17:58:28

We are watching this, but had to watch the first two episodes on catch up. I think it helped having a bit of a binge watch of 4 episodes.

But, what is bugging me, is, does anyone else think the storyline is familiar?

tattynan Mon 30-Nov-20 17:54:50

Episodes 3 and 4 much better than 1 so stick with it.

Cheesey Mon 30-Nov-20 17:50:36

I hope you enjoy the films Cherrytree. If you enjoyed the books it is lovely to see the characters come to life.

Cherrytree59 Mon 30-Nov-20 17:39:49

Cheesey' thank you?
I have read several of the Sandhamn books and enjoyed them.
However, I was very disappointed when tried to listen on audible, the narrator had an American sounding accent.?
Will look out for films on Amazon prime.
