And I'm a great fan too. Great songs, great sense of humour.

glammanana Sun 23-Jan-22 10:46:20

What a performer I would love to see her live.

bridie54 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:44:25

Another Dolly fan here. I've had her CD's since the 60's and my very young daughter took to her music too even snaffling my CD's for herself. Not that any child was harmed in the process. grin
I have last night's programmes saved to watch later.
I recently got myself Trio which has Dolly with Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris. 3 fabulous voices and such harmonies.

But this way your thread had a lot of replies Calli!

henetha Sun 23-Jan-22 10:38:29

Dolly has long been one of my great role models. I admire her, not just as a lovely singer and song writer, but for the way she has shaped her life into being what she wanted to be, and for how philanthropic she is.

Callistemon21 Sun 23-Jan-22 10:37:34

I started the thread just to alert anyone who might be interested that the programme was on BBC2 or they might be able to watch on iPlayer.
It wasn't an order, it's not compulsory and it wasn't meant as an invitation to a critique!

Urmstongran Sun 23-Jan-22 10:32:19

Maggiemaybe. How fantastic was that! ?

BlueSky Sun 23-Jan-22 10:08:58

I can’t stand country music because it was rammed down our throats by my ex husband, who didn’t tolerate any other music being played at home! So perhaps I’m biased!

Sparklefizz Sun 23-Jan-22 10:05:13

I love country music because the lyrics tell a story. Look at "Lucille" by Kenny Rogers or Dolly's "Jolene".

Luckygirl3 Sun 23-Jan-22 09:55:12

She is an excellent songwriter.

I am intrigued by her seeming genuineness alongside the "falseness" - she makes no bones about the fact that she always wears wigs and that she has lapped up every bit of surgery open to her to tweak her looks as the years have gone by. It must be so tiring to have to keep up this front all the time.

She is a great performer and musician. One of a kind.

BlueSky Sun 23-Jan-22 09:51:09

Well nearly 100% Dolly’s fans here, apart from Hetty and myself! I personally can’t stand country music to start with, nor her over inflated breasts, obviously meant to attract a large male audience. She does however have a beautiful voice.

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Jan-22 09:49:46

We won a trip to Tennessee many years ago, Urmstongran, and it included a trip to Dollywood, which was fabulous. Every other employee seemed to be a relative of hers!

Oldbat1 Sun 23-Jan-22 09:20:23

She is such an amazing person. What a voice.

Urmstongran Sun 23-Jan-22 09:11:47

We missed it as we were out to dinner but I shall definitely watch it on iPlayer when we’re home next week. I love Dolly. So did my late mum. If I’d had the money I would’ve loved to have taken mum to Dollywood.

kittylester Sun 23-Jan-22 09:03:42

I love that too but 'Little Sparrow' does it for me!

Sparklefizz Sun 23-Jan-22 08:28:08

I watched the programme last night. I think she's brilliant.... witty, talented and a clever business woman. I like her self-deprecation and humility, and the words of her song "Coat of many Colours" are very moving.

kittylester Sun 23-Jan-22 06:27:48

I really love her.

The number of songs that she has written always amazes me and I especially love 'I will always love you'.

Also, she does an awful lot for literacy in children both in the US and here.

Kim19 Sun 23-Jan-22 06:23:05

She certainly inspires the feel good in me. Bravo Dolly!

Pepper59 Sun 23-Jan-22 03:09:41

Very talented singer/songwriter/ musician and very humble. Love her and really appreciate all her charitable works. Very shrewd business woman too.

maddyone Sat 22-Jan-22 23:58:36

Another fan here. I love her songs and her personality.

Smileless2012 Sat 22-Jan-22 23:29:56

No worries Callistemonsmile. I remember seeing her being interviewed and she was asked how long it took to get her hair done. She said she had no idea because she was never there; fabulousgrin.
