Escape to the Country - why is it not being shown?

Each weekday, my EPG shows at 3 pm there is Escape to the Country. Now this is a show I love to hate. Watch it most days and spend a lot of time shouting at the silly people on it many with far too much money to spend.
Good, solid escapism - so why has this been taken off at time when we need as much escapism from reality as possible?
I do think that the endless news items on CV19, and that extended slot each afternoon prior to the daily update (which is pushing out ETTC), is actually more fuelling the concerns and panic, than it is helping.
Surely, this a time when we need to have any necessary updates on the news, briefly and to the point - morning, lunch time, early evening and late night - and the rest of the time tv should be entertaining and not frightening people.
For the Soaps, if they are unable to continue filming at present, then I think it would be fun and interesting if they went into their archives and used their normal slots to show these from their very beginnings.

I agree. I love a good shout up at it. DH says 'how much have the poor people got today? as he puts his head back to his on line backgammon.

I too am missing Escape to the Country. I love to see the beautiful homes and wish that I too could escape to the country instead of living in a (very big) city.
To make it a perfect escape we would live near to the sea as well............envy

Perhaps they’re not showing it to discourage people from driving out into the country when we’re supposed to be staying at home.
Also if you’re stuck in a tower block flat say, must make you feel worse.

Callistemon Sat 28-Mar-20 15:36:07

yes, we tend to say "how much" shock
But we did see a couple who bought a house not far from here and I shouted 'I've seen her'!!
They bought the house, obviously

It's just the kind of escapism we need right now.

I like it too and noticed it's usually offered in the am in the daily schedule then gives way to something else.
We have no TV, only BBC iplayer on our 'puters, and can find it again with search facility. Which shows you a whole range of choices from the various series.

My favourite afternoon proogram. I always sit down at 2.55 with a cuppa to get ready for ETTC.
It was listed in my tv mag as being on but was pushed out every day.sad.
As others have said we need some escapism at the moment, very much.

Hurrah its back as normal today! Wonder if BBC chiefs read threads such is this!!!! Where on earth do a young couple get a million quid to buy a property. And, upkeep would cost a fortune.

Callistemon Mon 30-Mar-20 16:16:49

Oh missed it!
Where were they, Franbern?

a million? shock

Ellianne Mon 30-Mar-20 16:24:27

I caught the end, I think it was Kent?

Callistemon Mon 30-Mar-20 16:34:20

That would be expensive then

Ellianne Mon 30-Mar-20 16:39:21

Yes anywhere which is an hour's commute to London. I assume the husband wanted to carry on working in the capital?
I prefer the house searches where the people, usually retirees, want to embrace country life and its activities too.

Callistemon Mon 30-Mar-20 17:23:04

Then may well wish they hadn't!

ninathenana Mon 30-Mar-20 17:24:37

It was on today !

??

"Where on earth do a young couple get a million quid to buy a property. And, upkeep would cost a fortune." That's what I thought too, Franbern.
I got the impression that they both had jobs in London, and grandparents look after the children when they're at work.
But imagine doing that commute to work every day.

I love this programme too. But I get annoyed when people view a very expensive beautiful property and then say of course we would have to change the kitchen, or the half acre garden isn't big enough.

Oopsadaisy3 Wed 15-Apr-20 08:58:38

It annoys me too, I don’t know why I bother to watch it as I live in the country anyway.
But I am so fed up with BBCs constant output of the CV, we need something to take our minds off of it, not wallow in all of the bad news. Reality is bad enough, we need some light entertainment.

annep1 Wed 15-Apr-20 09:04:57

I agree. We are constantly bombarded with updates interviews etc and reminders to stay at home. I just want to try to forget for a little while, and be entertained without IT being mentioned. Same on radio.

Also repeated The Repair Shop is scheduled to be on late afternoon. No show. ?‍♀️

Callistemon Wed 15-Apr-20 09:41:38

annep1 you may hear me shouting "I'll have your old kitchen, please"!

Perhaps it is psychological - some people may get the idea of escaping to the country and wandering around some of the lovely places they see on the programme when we are all supposed to Stay At Home.

I'm an avid daily watcher. Definitely for escapism at the moment and I enjoy the visits to various local craft workers or farms too.
Then I switch over to Escape to the Chateau DIY and get even more engrossed in fabrics, wallpapers, swimming pools etc. And the interesting people living their dreams.
By the time the CV update comes on I am well chilled and in a different world anyway!
Oh yes and Location tonight!

annep1 Wed 15-Apr-20 10:11:42

Location tonight Kirsty and Phil ?

I'm quite enjoying less Coronation Street and Neighbours. I look forward to them more. I think it was better in the "old " days when there was less television and we looked forward to sitting down to watch our favourites live.

MiniDriver56 Wed 15-Apr-20 10:16:46

I’m still able to see it 3pm on BBC1 every weekday.

Franbern Wed 15-Apr-20 10:49:32

Yes, ETTC is back in its normal slot, so I can happily continue watching and shouting at it. Also like Location........ It is good that we have these programmes as a sort of escapism at any time, but particularly at the moment.
I am missing my daily dose of Neighbours - now that has always been a good form of escapism.
I am avoiding news broadcasts so agree with Oppsadaisy3 that there are far too much time taken up with items about the virus, few of them giving us anything new, just going round and round and.........
I think they are doing this to keep us scared.......but I do not believe that this sort of fear and paranoia is a good thing.
I am so happy that I have loads of stuff recorded on my humax - I was wondering how I was going to find time to watch a lot of it, now I slowly catching up.
Still have the whole of the last series of Poldark to watch!!!
