I happened upon this series a couple of weeks ago. I am always desperate for a good drama series, that isn't too far fetched.
There are 3 series of this. It is heartwarming and sad and funny and very insightful as well. The main character is Akti, and they are trying to find him a match. But there are loads of other characters, especially the Dad of the family. It surprises me with its humour as well, even though the subject matter can be very deep. I highly recommend it, if you like to let characters have time to establish and like the whole family dynamic to play out. I am sad I am on the last series, so not many more to watch. Let me know if you are watching it, or intend to, its really worth it.

Forgot to say its about Haredi Orthodox Jews

Yes I watched all 3 series over a few weeks. I watched a couple of episodes each evening.
I did enjoy it, it gave me an insight into Jewish customs which I was unaware of. I wonder why they touched the newel post on entering and exiting a house. I was not aware that they were allowed to take alcoholic drinks, and the male shirt with those streamers hanging down also intrigued me.

I also watched a Netflix film called Orthodox last year, about
a young Jewish girl who was married off against her will and what happened to her. I do not want to go into any detail not to spoil it. She was part of the sect of Hungarian Satmar Hasidic Jews that lived in Williamsberg, New York (I had to goggle that). If you like Shitzel you will enjoy that.

I watched Orthodox and loved it I thought it was excellent I ve just recently started Shtisel and so far enjoying that too
What strange customs and all the rocking makes me think it’s almost like OCD where you have to do or touch something or a bad thing will happen

I think it is the same actress in Orthodox and in Shtisel?

You may also like a series on Netflix called Ethos, which is a Turkish series about a clash of cultures. A young woman from a traditional rural family and a westernised female psychiatrist and how their lives intertwine.

I watched Orthodox and was impressed, which led me to Shtisel. I'll be sorry to finish the series. It has given me insight... and hopefully some understanding..of a culture so very alien to me. Totally absorbing and well acted.

I haven't watched it. As I'm currently looking for a new series to watch, I'm glad that I've found this discussion. Thanks for the suggestion.

I too am loving Shtisel and am on the third series. Will be sorry when I finish it. I find the insight into their customs and way of life fascinating. Orthodox was good too.
I also enjoyed Caliphate - about an impending Isis attack in Sweden and young girls being drawn into joining. Worth watching.
