And for some reason 4 x 16 roll packs of loo paper that won't fit into the cupboard ?

Many years ago I had a neighbour I was very envious of as her cupboards were full of multiples of all sorts of stuff which I couldn't afford to do. Now I find I've slipped into that mode of multiple packs of toilet rolls, soap powder, shampoo and shower gel. It must be an age thing

Ok. As I get older, this is clearly a sign I should watch out for!

I'm terrible at having loads of stuff stockpiled since I moved to the countryside.

It's nice to have that "full larder" feeling though!

Luckily there's not much room in my house, but I did get a couple of bottles of good hand wash on offer yesterday - I already had a couple in the bathroom cabinet - and seem to have accumulated more than the usual number of shower gels.

Think what fun our children will have tutting when they come to clear out our houses - much as we did when we found pre-war soap powder in MiL's airing cupboard and american tan stockings in an aunt's house.

I'll just say that DH does the shopping because he does the cooking and he is a hoarder! Just how many paint rollers can one home use? Soon we will need a bigger house!

I have fitted wardrobes in two bedrooms and one entire shelf is full of cleaning materials in one and a couple of deep drawers in the other. Most but not all, were "bargains". I probably will not need to buy any for at least a couple of years, ditto with shampoo and shower gel.

I drink only M&S coffee granules so I have at least 6 large jars. This all started when I broke my ankle and had done, luckily a large shop before the accident so I was okay for everything until I could drive again, many months later. I have not been able to stop "just in case". The only thing I cannot stockpile is bread because my freezer is 50/50 f/f. I do not like to be a burden on friends and neighbours.

I think it must be an age thing because I've realised my Mum and my FiL stock up on these things now and my late Dad did too. Only just realised that they all started doing it when they were retired. Mum keeps her stock pile in the little bedroom and my FiL keeps his in two large cupboards off the hall. I suppose it's a way of saving money.

Charleygirl my Dad always had a lot of coffee, Nescafe I think. He'd buy loads of jars with special offer labels he collected and sent away for vouchers to buy even more coffee. We'd get vouchers in the post we never sent for and realise it was my Dad getting around the 'one per household' rule!

In 1974 (ish) there were national shortages of sugar and toilet rolls and I can tell you why. My MiL had them all in her pantry!

Toilet paper (bought a lot from Natural Collection because I like it made of recycled paper). We also have a lot of baked beans and buy Heinz tomato soup whenever Tesco has it on offer.

I did recently count 19 boxes of Felix cat food. I only buy it when it is on offer. Thankfully the cats still like it.

My DM went to the shops every day "for the messages" and was always on the brink of running out of something. It drove me mad, stressed me and clearly made a deep impression on me. Ever since I married I have always kept a well stocked larder and a cleaning cupboard full of at least one spare of all the essential cleaning products. My DC do exactly the same!

When I was ill my lovely friends came in to help and I couldn't get over how much of cleaning products we were getting through. When I was well enough to go and look in my cupboards I found that each of my friends had made a stash of stuff because they knew that I liked to keep a good stock of things in the house. When I gathered it all into one place we ended up with so much that it has taken about 6 years and a house move to get back to normality so that was a different kind of stress!

My DS moved recently and in the sorting and packing discovered that she has so much in the way of stored items that she may well never have to buy some of them in her lifetime ever again. Funny how your childhood influences what you yourself do in later life.

Alima you just need to hope that your furry friends don't go 'on strike' and refuse to eat that particular brand again. That has happened to us and in the end we had to give it away. If you have ever seen a smug look on a cat's face you will know exactly how she looked! Its a controlling thing.

I went to get a bottle of bleach out yesterday morning but they were all bottles of toilet gel (only five though!).
We found about a dozen bottles of bleach in various cupboards in MIL's house when we cleared it. I am just wondering if they were on the weekly shopping list which her neighbour kindly fetched for her - but she couldn't open them (see other thread re bleach bottles).

OH stocked up with about 8 bottles of Aldi maple syrup after we had not seen any in the shop for months. It will take ages to get through them all.

I tend to only buy bog rolls in packs of 12.
I do sometimes find I have bought things "in case" I havent got them in, usually when I have not checked before going shopping. several bottlesof bog cleaner at one stage. Not nine though.

Used to 'collect' multiple bottles of cleaning stuff and enough loo paper for an army. After downsizing there is no space. It was embarrassingly hard initially but now I cope with one bottle of cleaner in use with one spare and a mere 4 rolls of loo paper waiting in the cupboard. Probably the biggest challenge of the move! I do still have space for multiple tins of beans, phew.

I dislike running out of things and have had recurring nightmares when I am hosting a posh dinner party – something I haven't done for many years – and I realise that we have run out of loo paper. I do buy a huge pack of loo paper when it's on special about every six months and have a cupboard in the bathroom where I can store it. I have helped out absentdaughter on occasion when she has been running low. I tend to buy lots of cans of tomatoes as I use them lot and like to keep a few other things, such as canned cannelloni beans, kidney beans and sweetcorn kernels as well as some frozen veg in the freezer.

I have a list on my fridge door that lists all the stock items. When they are running low, one of us – usually me – highlights what needs to be bought.

I always stock up Dove Pro-age shower soap when I see it on offer and things like Simple shampoo and conditioner. I don't have space for a lot of bulk buying but these things I can find space for.
